Jewish Brides- Is anyone making a program?

A program with explanations of rituals and/or traditions as well as people in bridal party and a place to honor deceased? I have seen this done recently at two weddings but wasn't sure if I wanted to or not.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would LOVE to do one, I see all these posts about programs, but I wasnt sure if it was appropriate for a interfaith marriage. But, what you suggested sounds like a great idea!!

Two things tho.. One, I'm NOT creative & two, I wouldnt know where to begin and how to put one together.... I would be completely clueless!

I'm not making a program. Most of my guests are Jewish and are familiar with the parts of a Jewish wedding. I think that if you have a lot of guests who haven't been to Jewish weddings, it could be very helpful to explain the parts of the ceremony.

D&J - For an interfaith marraige I think it would be very appropriate, as you will be able to explain the aspects of your wedding to everyone. I'm sure there are templates out there you can use to create them.

I made one but didn't explain the customs- most of our guests were jewish too and if they weren't they pretty much knew what the stuff meant. The programs I've seen looked really wordy and long and I didn't want someone sitting there reading that during our ceremony. JMO.

I'm kind of lazy - but I know I will end up making them because we are an interfaith couple - so it is a perfect opportunity to explain customs from both religions and make everyone feel comfortable and part of it!

Yup. My family is Jamaican, and none of them are Jewish. I'll post when I've made them.

I am probably going to make programs. Although most of my guests are Jewish and know the customs, i think it's nice to do and add some personal touches. For example, a family member is designing/painting our Ketubah for us so we will acknowledge her in the program and explain the design that we pick out.

I also like it when it explains (briefly) who each person in the wedding party is. A friend of mine recently did that and it was so nice and thoughtful- plus, it allowed everyone to know who was walking down the aisle and why.

I've actually never seen them done for any wedding, and never even heard of them being done for Jewish ones. We have alot of stuff on our plates right now, and I'm not sure if we really want to add more. Like some of you said, both families are Jewish and everybody pretty much knows the rituals. Plus, you could always ask your officiant to explain things to your guests as he/she goes along with the ceremony. It kind of makes them feel more like part of the ceremony, rather than just an 'audience'.

we are having an interfaith wedding and we plan on making a program that would explain all the rituals that will be going on during the ceremony

I am definitely doing one! I want to explain the traditions that ar going on in our wedding to people who don't understand them. Also, I wanted to print the words to the song I am walking down the aisle to since that song is in Hebrew. Almost every wedding I have been to has done this.

I did only because we had an interfaith wedding and I wanted to explain some of the customs to guests who were not familiar with them.

I did the programs all by myself on my computer. I set up a Word document in three columns. In the first column, I listed the names of our parents and bridal party. In the second column, I described the various Jewish traditions in the wedding. In the third column, I wrote a thank you. Once it was printed, I folded the program in thirds, so all of the writing was on the inside. Then I took red paper strips with our names and wedding date printed, and closed each program with the strips taped together with double-sided tape. I don't think I spent more than 30 dollars on the programs (but that doesn't include the printer ink). I bought heavy paper at the store.

I am not at all creative, but the programs did look very nice.

Julybaby, that sounds like it was just beautiful.

Msgraham- would love to see yours when finished> since you have your budget down to a science I am sure you would make it beautifully for an inexpensive prive!

I made programs and explained all the Jewish customs/traditions. I also included a mini paragraph about each of my BM and DH did this for the Grooms men. I also put in a thank you and our new address on the back. I e-mailed the file to Kinkos and they did the printing, including the folding which made my life so much easier. I also put the same color ribbons as my BMs wore around the program.

I will try to scan a copy of it.
