I am getting married on a Sat. night before sundown and just realized that no Rabbi that I have spoke to so far is going to be able to perform the ceremony. I am obviously not the most religious person on the block, but would like to get married by a Rabbi if I can.
If anyone can recommend someone

Re: Jewish Brides (or not), Need your help!
I am so happy with the Rabbi we found. He part of a Reform Temple in Nassau, and is marrying us on a Sat. night but he is traditional about other things. He does not want our rings to have diamonds during the ceremony and he wants us to have a Reform Ketubah. I'm not sure if he does interfaith. FM me if you want info!

Can't move up the ceremony? How about having the cocktail hr first. I'm not sure you are going to get any rabbi to marry you before sundown.

How about a cantor...that is who is marrying us.

unfortunately i don't think any rabbi will marry you before sundown. i also suggest you review the less-known holidays.
I originally had booked my wedding on a holiday that i didn't even know about, and had to change it! Oops!

If I were you, I would move the cocktail hour to the hour before your ceremony, then do the ceremony and then have the reception. I don't know any rabbi that will perform a jewish wedding unless it is 30 minutes after sundown for the sabbath. sorry.

Good advice about checking the calendar for lesser holidays. I almost made the mistake of booking my wedding on Sukkot. Luckily FMIL caught it and emailed me a copy of this years holiday calendar.

Yes, you have to be careful especially in the fall when the bulk of Jewish holidays fall out. We got married in November, and I realized in October that I may have a hard time ordering yarmulkes and such because most places were closed for the holidays. It didn't help that they all fell out during the week in 2005 either!

my sister got married by a VERY reformed Rabbi and even he refused to marry them before sunset on Shabbat. since they got married in June, it was late!

not every reform rabbi is a stickler for the sundown- 3 stars in the sky to indicate shabbat is over -rule. what time is your ceremony? how much before sundown? usually, we (i'm a cantor) start sat. nite ceremonies around 7:30-8 depending on the time of year.

I highly recommend Cantor Harris Cohen. He did a great job at our wedding.

My ceremony starts at 7:00. May I believe sundown is closer to 8:00.

My friend is getting married on a Saturday afternoon and having the Interfaith Union. It's a rabbi and cantor that work together. Mayber you can call about their rabbi.
My rabbi would not even start to travel to our wedding until after sundown. So, I even had to factor in his travel time before I could figure out when to start the wedding. it worked out fine!

This may rub people the wrong way but one of the Ten Commandments is to Remember the Sabbath and Keep it Holy. I personally could not and would not get married until the sun went down. I am not Shomer Shabbos but I just couldnt do it.
