Should I bring up the fact that I will need 2.5 weeks off in October for a honeymoon during the 2nd interview or wait until / IF I get offered the job?
Also, I am in a situation with my current job - My company was sold so I was kept on for an extra 6-8 weeks & then I'm out of a job ..... Would you guys quit if the correct job came along or would you try to keep your committment to the current company & stay longer? (If i left, I'd screw the only other employee that was kept on with me)
thanks - all this stuff is so stressful that I just want to cry

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
I would wait until you get the job to bring up needing time off. Just ace your interviews, and it won't matter . For your other job, you should try to stay for the additional time committed since you will probably want to use them as a reference in the future. Hope this helps!

I dont know if I would wait until I got the job to them about the 2.5 weeks off. What if they say no? Then you will have to quit- and stuck without an option. Definitely give them a heads up.

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
i'm thinking if u should wait till after the interviews to tell them about the time off. as far leaving ur old job i'm sorry but I come first and if my new company needed me to start before my other job was over i'd give my old job 2 weeks notice and leave.

I didn't mention anything about my honeymoon when hired and when I requested the time off I got denied so I had to resign!
They said they wouldn't have hired me in the first place if they knew about the HM.

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
Being in HR, I would wait until a offer is extended, to tell them about Vaca. I did that at my new job. The worst that can happen is that you have to take unpaid time off.
To stay at your current company now, and wait until your last day there is okay but, You don't owe your curent job anything, they are letting you go anyway...To sit and wait around would be silly, unless it is a good servernce package that is worth waiting for...
At times, when people are laid off the new company will work with you pending on their needs to compromise your date of hire...(but not all companies do this0
ETA: Just as a side note, at that moment when the offer is extend, you tell them I am getting married and will need some time off...Not when you start working for a week.

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
I actually had a similar situation. I waited to mention the vacation I had planned until I had the offer. They will not reneg on their offer because you are taking a 2.5 week honeymoon. Maybe, if you were going to be away for a whole month, they would. It will distract from your interview process if you mention your honeymoon during the interview. You are not being dishonest if you wait to tell the new job about your honeymoon before taking the job.

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
I was in a similar situation when I was offered my current job. My vacay was already scheduled and had been for a while.
I would actually wait until and offer is extended too, like mentioned in a previous post. You do not want your HM to be the prevailing factor in making a decision to hire you. I found that most companies are okay as long as you are up-front with them about it. They may just move your start date (which was the case with me) or not pay your for your time off.
As for staying on with your current job. Since they are letting you go anyway, you are under no obligation to stay. If the opportunity is presented to you, I think you should take it.

I have a second interview this week.
Should I bring up the fact that I will need 2.5 weeks off in October for a honeymoon during the 2nd interview or wait until / IF I get offered the job?

definitely tell them at the second interview. more than likely they won't mind - and they will appreciate the fact that they won't be blindsided after they offer you the job!
and if you have to start the new job before your time at the old job is up, then that's what you have to do. you can't worry about other employees there, as much as you want to - you have to look out for YOU first. you also can't expect that she wuold do the same for you, right?

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
I would mention it, because it's an important time in your life. It shouldn't be a problem really. They may not pay you for the time you take.
Will you be getting a package deal once you're time is up? If the offer from the new job pays more then I would consider taking that one.
In the end you need to figure out if it will be worth it.

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
i would tell them about your HM and that you need the time off now!!...i went to three interviews for one particular job--got an awesome offer..and waited to tell them that I was going away for 1 week and then decided they didn't want me!! They gave me a choice--I could not go on vacation and they would give me my $$$ back or not take the job. So I decided to not take the job...BTW i was only missing 5 days!! Also, I would stick it out with your current job...see if anything else might come your way...
HTH!! Feel better! Everything will work out

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
i would wait until getting the job to tell them but make sure you are aware of any company policies on vacation. i work in a corporate environment where there is a 90 day 'probation' period before you can take accumulated vacation. so make sure you are aware of anything like that. also i def would take the job and not overly worry if you screw the other chic. its unfortunate but in the situation you are in you gotta fend for yourself (unless you think you could get her a job there too ) either way - good luck!

Re: job advice regarding starting a new job
I literally just went through this. I was interviewing for a job at the end of May and I was upfront from the beginning. I told them at the end of my interview that I was getting married in September and my honeymoon was already booked. They told me they appreciated my honesty...and that not many candidates are so upfront with them when it comes to these things. Needless to say, I did get the job, just started two weeks ago, and it's great. I would upfront and honest...because once they make you the offer and then you tell them...you look like you were holding out on them and being dishonest. Just my opinion! Good luck to you!!
