challenge!

always think long term - what may not 'benefit you' now, may pay off in the future...

i strive to find the a balance between job hopper and drone, sometimes things are out of ones control though

I'd take the Challenge and learn something new. It's something else you can add to your resume!

Re: Job Question

I was in this situation a little over a year ago and I went for the challenge. I wanted it for the resume building and to impress the new management in the company (and also b/c it is what I am going to school for but that is a whole other story). I hate this new job. It is so not what I want to do and most of the time, I have no clue what I am doing. I am not used to not being good and knowledgeable at my job. I miss my old job

This is a hard decision that you will need some time to make. Make sure you understand the responsiblilities of the new position and what you would be doing on a daily basis and if it is something you are going to enjoy doing, go for it.

Would you rather stay in your current position and continue to do you job, which you know you do well and is under control?

OR

Would you rather take on a challenge, knowing it will be difficult?

SAME PAY...nothing will change

keep the same job. Focus your energy on another project in your life, maybe school, a certification, a hobby. Why take a more challenging job for the same amount of money? The only justification I could see is if you are doing something for a good cause. But, it doesn't seem like the case here

i hear ya!

i had 2 good jobs for 2 totally different reasons and often play out the 'if i only...' scenarios. environments constantly change because people change so things that once were good can quickly turn bad, one never knows...i've seen it happen...

as for knowing what one is getting into, i think all jobs are a 50% crap shoot. one should always try to get as much info as possible, but just as you don't know the potential employer, they don't know you and are taking a 'risk'/'chance' as well. with age and experience one is able to identify the red flags better, but sometimes things can totally go awry outside ones control. in a bad economy the concept of 'choice' has a totally different meaning

I like a challenge. I get bored to easily to give up a chance like that. Challenging yourself keeps your brain awake !!

Re: Job Question

Thanks everyone for the advice...

THe thing is i know what i am in for...and it isn't good...they want me to replace someone who hasnt done a good job...Basically jumoing in and fixing everything. ASIDE from the normal stress that will go along with the job. I know about all the responisbilities..it is MY CURRENT JOB...just in a more difficult building...

I don't know what i am going to do..I LOVE a challenge but i am going to be having a lot of stressful changes soon (buying a house, TTC)and i don't know if i really want to add to it...

But thatnk you soo much for the great opinions

If pay is same, then no, I will want to stay where I am, why bother stressing out if you're not gonna be compensated w/ $$$?? There's plenty of other things in life to stress about for free.....

I have to agree with this. I used to feel differently and used to love a good challenge, but I often ended up wearing myself out. If there's no additional pay, it just wouldn't be worth it for me.

Re: Job Question

Well the situation partly applies to me. I did take a challenge but I do make more money now. It is more difficult than my last job though. (librarian trainee)
