Job Question

Would you rather stay in your current position and continue to do you job, which you know you do well and is under control?

OR

Would you rather take on a challenge, knowing it will be difficult?

SAME PAY...nothing will change

Re: Job Question

If pay is same, then no, I will want to stay where I am, why bother stressing out if you're not gonna be compensated w/ $$$?? There's plenty of other things in life to stress about for free.....

Re: Job Question

I can tell you that both are hard decisions, but everything in life is a gamble. I like challenges and changes, so I will probably go with the more challenging but difficult. JMO

Re: Job Question

same place no challenge..I consider work just one element of my life. Any extra energy goes towards my DH and my spirit

Sometimes, change can be good though.

Re: Job Question

I go back and forth..
1. i would like a challenge but i think this may be over my head.

2. I like impressing people and if i took this on i would be looked at favorably (even if it didn't work out)

3. If i leave my current position i will probably not be able to get it back!

Re: Job Question

It depends how much I love my job. If I thought it was worth moving into a more challanging position without more pay, I would. Chances are the company will notice that and consider you for any future promotions, etc.

In my case, I wouldn't. It's not what I want to do the rest of my life and I will be persuing a new career shortly.

Re: Job Question

Honestly this is easy for me, since I'm really not career driven at all.. so I would stay put for sure. I do not look at my job as fulfillment really, and my focus now in the immediate future is all about starting a family, buying a home, living a simple life with my DH.

I feel as though I have enough stress, and I'm not really great with change anyhow - I like to keep stress out of the workplace at all costs (whenever possible)

Which one is going to satisfy you more and are you going be able to grow and learn more from it?

well changing positions would allow me to grow and learn more...But that doesn't mean i will be happy.

Than that's your answer. Do what's going to make you happy.

true...but i guess i feel i would be letting my administrator down.
AND i think taking this job can lead to other promotions in the future (not that i won't be promoted if i stayed...just might be a tad quicker)

Sooo many plus and minuses

Re: Job Question

you seem to be the type that likes a challenge. I think maybe you should go for it.
I, on the other hand wouldn't, b/c work is just where I go to earn enough money to support us.

Def. take the challenge if you will be learning something new. It's the only way to move up - If that's what you want.

Re: Job Question

i say go for the challange - it makes you look better as an employee. plenty of people stay in their position b/c they are comfortable, but, to employeers it looks like you don't want to make things better for yourself. i say go for the new responsibilities.

Re: Job Question

I would leave personally. I like being challenged! I hate when I am doing my job and it just becomes about going through the motions. And sometimes a lateral move will lead to more growth and fulfillment down the line.

I left my last job because of that, I was bored and although it was easy to stay because I was good at what I was doing and everyone at my company was happy with me, I left and a really hard time as well because it was 6 weeks before my wedding and 4 weeks before we closed on our new home. But it was the best decision I ever made. It was a lateral move basically although I did get a pay increase (but honestly if I stayed at my last job, in 2 months I probably would have gotten the same raise that I got by leaving). But my new company allows much more of a challege, I am learning a totally new area and there is a lot more potential in my new position.

DO what makes you happy. What is a good decision for one is not necessarily good for everyone!

i like my quality of life at my current position. i was acutally offered a change -and i declined. i guess when it comes to my job im a creature of habit.
