okay so my fiance and i went to look at john anthony's last nite and we both fell in love with it. the the prices are good the menu is amazing and we are water people so are having photoes taking on the beach and we really would love to have our reception at JA's BUT clueless that i am , after i got home last nite i decided to check it out on liw and then i found all that stuff about bankruptcy and stuff and now my FH is so disappointed because he loves it. they were very nice and we felt comfortable with them, they were not snotty like other places we had consults at BUT they didnt mention anything about the bankruptcy issue and my FH wants to call up and ask them directly. when it comes to this kind of stuff i dont really know what is the right way to handle it, are they just rumors or is it a fact. girls help me out here!!! p.s. in searching the boards i apologize if i bring up a sour issue, some of the chats got a little out of hand , i just want to know what the real deal is. thanks

I think john anthony's is gorgeous. Go with your gut not what other people say. In all honesty everyone on here has SOMETHING bad to say about one hall or another.
eta - you should fm [email protected] she is another bride on here getting married at JA this year.

We are all entitled to our opinions, which is the great thing about these boards. What you may like, others might not. But to each his own, thats what makes the boards so special.
Now to answer your question, if you love the place, then go for it. It really doesnt matter what anyone else thinks. The only advice I would give you is to check more places out. If your looking for something on the water, there are a couple of places you can look at. Keep your options open, and if JA's keeps popping up in your head, then follow your heart!! Let us know what you decide!!

I think your best bet would definetly be to call and ask them flat out... I don't know if there is a way of checking through the government or whatever if they have filed...
I hope things work out for you!

When you call them (which you should), just find out whether they're going into liquidation or reorganization. With liquidation, they're going to sell off their assets to pay creditors. With reorganization, they're just restructuring their debt to keep the company going. The creditors are just entitled to as much as they would've received during liquidation (often pennies on the dollar). It's in JA's best interest to keep money (and brides) coming in so that they can pay their creditors. There are plenty of companies that declare bankruptcy and go on to do just fine. Just find out how this is going to affect you and, if possible, try to get it in writing. Good luck!

My fiance and I looked there as well. I got the run around at first when we came out and asked them and then finally they said that they are in the process of being bought. They will be under new management and say the new management will abide by all contracts already submitted. With much thought we decided to go with East Wind instead...couldnt take the risk and I fell in LOVE!!!!

The only 'rumor' I heard( through family) wa sthat the owner of the LA Grange inn was buying JA's...Many of you know he also owned Imperial Manor before selling it...and that place was a wedding haven for a long time ...If that truth is true then your in great hands....

I also heard that they are going bankrupt. I'm in the Commercial Real Estate business, and I think the rumors are pretty accurate. But definetly look into further. You have to feel totally comfortable with your decision.

hi we went there also my finace and I liked it however we just did not hear good things from people who have been to events there recently. We both wanted the water, there are many places you can get that. we picked Windows on the Lake, great food, near the water, and were getting the most for our money, along with hearing great things. i saw alot of places if you have any questions maybe i can help.
