Joining Bank Accounts

Did you join bank accounts before you got married?

Do you plan to keep separate accounts and a shared account once you are married?

Re: Joining Bank Accounts

We've been living together for 9 months and just got a joint account. We will both close out all of our separate accounts. I see no reason to have an individual account. He makes a lot more money that me right now, anyway. So, if we had individual accounts, I'd be struggling and he wouldn't. Who knows, maybe if I made more than him, I'd want separate so I can shop more.

We have a joint checking account but seperate savings accounts. Sadly because I am the saver in the relationship my personal account has now become 'the wedding fund'.

We joined our bank accounts before the wedding-when we got our apartment. We have joint checking and savings. No individual accounts. It works out just fine.

Same here.

We're combining, but we're each keeping our savings and placing each other's names on each account for deposit reasons.

We have a joint online account but separate checking accounts. Once we get married we plan on having joint accounts.

we have joint everything. Once we moved in together it was just easier to have both our paychecks go to the same account.

Re: Joining Bank Accounts

We opened our joint checking account a few weeks before the wedding, so that any gifts we got went into there. We just opened a joint savings on ING. We're in the process of closing our other accounts, I just closed my old checking and he closed his old savings. Having all of our money together makes it easier to pay bills (we don't have to worry about what's coming out of what account) and we can keep track of everything together. Although I still have a bunch of money in my ING that isn't joint. He knows it's there, but it's money to go towards buying a house someday and I don't want him to be tempted to spend it, so out of sight out of mind.
