Re: Jovon Photography
I visited them when I was choosing a photographer. Their photographs were beautiful, but I was really turned off by Jovon's attitude. He wouldn't answer my questions, basically dismissing them with 'we are great' when I wanted a response. A friend from high school used them for her wedding, and was happy with the albums, but found them extremely difficult to work with after the wedding.

Re: Jovon Photography
I know 2 girls at work who booked Jovon. One girl got married last Oct. and the other is getting married in June. The proofs from the Oct. wedding look great! I went there and liked them, couldn't tell you how they would actually be to work with, but all I know is if you choose the studio, just don't choose Jovon as your photographer. Hope that helps!

Re: Jovon Photography
overpriced and overrated. like the other posts say they are pretty high on them selves. not for nothing but if your going to be paying someone 6-7 grand just for pictures then they had better kiss your butt all day, dont expect great treatement from these people.you could definately find a better photographer that is going to be less expensive then jovan.

Re: Jovon Photography
I am using JoVon and I LOVE them!! I'm paying less than $5K for a photographer and photojournalist. I already got my engagement pictures and they are AMAZING! Midge has been nothing but helpful since day 1 - she has helped me with more than just my photographs -also coordinating and planning the whole day. They are so great! Definitely check them out!

Re: Jovon Photography
We had narrowed down our list to Jovon, Sherwood Triart and the one we choose, Spelman Studios.I liked Jovon's work, but personally found Sherwood's salespeople a little easier to deal with. Not that Jovon's studio was pushy, I just clicked better with the woman at Sherwood. I was ready to book Sherwood, but then we met with Spelman and really clicked with her.
The most important thing is to find a studio that has salespeople and photographers that you click with. You'll be spending a lot of time and money on them, and it's important that they understand (and can deliver) exactly what you envision your wedding photography to be.

Re: Jovon Photography
My cousin used them and frankly I was not impressed. The quality of the pictures was ok, but they were very posed shots. She likes that kind of photography, so she loved thir work, but there was not one natural looking picture. Also, they were totally in our face the whole wedding, big lights on the dance floor, very intrusive.

Re: Jovon Photography
I just booked them for my November wedding and they have been so nice and so accomdating. Ask to work with Andrea- she is great! My friend used them for her wedding and her pictures were beautiful. You can work with them on price too. I met with Spelman Studios and LOVED their work as well. But I got a better price from Jovon if you can believe it!

Re: Jovon Photography
I was deciding between Sherwood Triart and Jovon for a while. I ended up booking JoVon because although Sherwood was a bit cheaper when you added the extras (b +W, thank yous etc) it added up. I am so happy with JoVon. 2 people I work with used them and their pictures and albums are amazing. I had my engagement pictures taken and my FH said they are worth every penny we spent after looking at them!!! They were incredible, I cant wait to see the wedding photos

Re: Jovon Photography
Jovon has many photographers that work out of the place, yes? So, in my opinion, the type of photos you end up with are determined by the photographer who shoots your wedding. I looked at a bunch of books there and saw some styles I really liked, and others that did not impress me.I spoke to Midge many times, and she was very nice and helpful. I ended up using a different photographer, but it turns out that he does work for Jovon at times as well...

You need to find the right photographer, not just studio. You can LOVE Jovon's work, but remember he is not (most likely) shootingyour wedding.

Re: Jovon Photography
Oh I am not having Jovon himself do my wedding. My 2 friends from work did not have JoVon either and they actually had 2 different photographers and there pictures were amazing!!!I think that they are a pretty reputable company so anyone you use will take amazing pictures. I dont think its worth spending that extra money to have Jovon take them!

Re: Jovon Photography
We used Jovon - and just got our proofs back a few days ago. They promised us that we'd get about 1500 proofs (we hired 2 photographers) - and there must be at least 2000!! We wanted both posed & candids - color & black & white pics. We got it all - and the pics look great (Although I need more time to go through them all!) Telmo was our main photographer - and he was FANTASTIC to work with. He's so easy-going - and accommodated all our requests. He didn't mind when members of the bridal party took pictures with their cameras right next to him for our formal shots - and he stayed right through the end of the affair - though he arrived a half hour early. They are a little more expensive than some other studios - but we feel it was worth it.

Re: Jovon Photography
This is my first post-wedding review and as a hobbyist photographer my fiancée and I spent a lot of time interviewing photographers. I feel it is necessary to let people know of my experience with JoVon. This photography studio came recommended to us. We were sold on the studio by David’s sales pitch. He had this enthusiastic energy, was familiar with our church (having shot there before), and told us the kind of shots we should expect to get. We were really excited! During the sales pitch he specifically mentioned pictures from the second landing of church (overhead shots looking down on the ceremony), and in the event of rain, he would have an off-camera light to take a silhouette in the rain. We told JoVon (who was at the sales pitch), we would hire his studio, only if we get David as the photographer. He agreed and it was written in our contract.Engagement shoot: Lots of awkward, unflattering shots, soft focus, and many with compositional issues. We liked Marko, our photographer, but felt that at the end of the day, the work should outshine the photographer’s personality.
Fast forward to our wedding day. I’m sitting in the salon chair getting my hair done and I get a call from JoVon, himself. I let it go to voicemail. I hear it. David won’t be shooting our wedding because he has come down with food poisoning. I was stunned. They tell you to expect that not everything will go as planned on your wedding day. My initial thought was, “wow, the old classic, bait and switch”. I texted my fiancé and he had already told me that he spoke to JoVon and that he is sending Fillip who assists him (to replace David) and Marko (who did our engagement shoot). So, when it became apparent to me that Marko was heading the photo team on my wedding day, it raised some concern, but I let it go. Whether the food poisoning story is true or not we don’t know, David never contacted us.
During wedding: Be aware that videography gib/crane is a huge eye-sore on the dance floor.
Proofs: Between 3 photographers and 2 videographers, the JoVon staff will end up in A LOT of your photos and video. I can understand that this is impossible to avoid entirely, but this was ridiculously excessive. They also included a portrait of one of the photographers in our proofs, which was downright infuriating.
We NEVER got the pictures that David had promised. We had snow showers during our day and although beautiful, none of the photographers used this to their creative advantage. No one took out an off camera light to take that umbrella shot…or use extra lighting for our second location. The exterior shots came out dull.
We have only one classic-style full length portrait shot of us looking at the camera. No one had the sense to hand me my bouquet. We requested this shot (although soft focus) to be part of our print package with specific directions for cropping and color. Our directions were ignored and our 3 8x10’s and one 11x16 went straight into the garbage (even if they listened to our requests the pictures came creased).
I have no solo full length dress shot or solo full-length portrait shot of myself. Pics were taken of my dress and when asked why this was, I was told because the room was dark. Inexcusable! When asked why there wasn’t a picture of my sister buttoning me up, I was first told that Marco was not in the room. A LIE. He can actually be seen in the mirror behind me in the shots along with a couple of the other staff. When I brought this to their attention, they back-tracked and said it was a “difficult angle”. All they had to do is walk up behind me. How difficult is that??
We had close friends playing traditional Greek instruments and not one picture of them when we specifically requested it from David. There are no wide shots of the room to show our 300+ guests. We do have tons of posed shots of guests (regardless of the fact that we specifically told David we did not want this) and very few candid shots. Lots of posed pictures were taken in front of a mural, so we have a lot of shots where unflattering parts of mural are sticking out of our heads. Photographers should be mindful of this, either change their position, or have us move. Forget about retouching or photoshopping this out. JoVOn uses a couple of different presets for color, but don’t do any retouching, at least, not in our photos. All we are left with is a ridiculously expensive album and a b+ video. Our best pictures came from a couple guests cell phones.
Rule of thumb, get everything on paper, ask for your pictures to be shot in RAW and request that all the RAW files are given to you after the wedding. If you had the kind of experience we had, you will end up doing the post-editing yourself (or have a friend do it). If you haven’t decided on JoVon just yet, take a closer look at their over-sized pictures in their studio. Are they really that good? Be wary of their name-dropping too. Don’t get easily suckered. At the end of the day, it’s the product they produce that matters.
