Ok this might be a stupid question... I asked my 12 year old cousin to be my Jr. Bridesmaid. I felt that she was way too young to be a BM but too old to be a flower girl. Well, we went to get her fitted for her dress and she is now telling me that she does not want to wear straps on her dress. All the BM's are wearing strapless dresses and we ordered hers with optional straps that can be attached at final fitting. I would really like for her to wear them for two reasons.... 1) she's only 12 and I think strapless is too much for her. and 2) I want her to stand out from the regular BM's. She's a kid-not one of my adult friends (all in their late 20's/early 30's). Her mom is a nut-so I wouldn't even bother talking to her about it!
Do I try to convince her to wear them or just shut my mouth and let her do what she wants? I really want her to look like a kid but I'm really bad with confrontation and maybe I shouldn't bother saying anything? Am I being a bridezilla?

Re: Jr Bridesmaid???
Thank you! That's exactly how I feel. She is only 12 and I don't want her looking like an adult-she is a kid. I think everyone said it perfectly- she wants to be like the older girls. I have a little less than 9 months to convince her! Can someone please lend me their backbone?

You're right. She is a kid and she should have the straps. Explain to her that to distinguish her from a BM she as a Jr BM will have the straps.

HA HA HA! Poofy dresses with big thick shoulder pads were so in style! I'm just trying to think back if I were slouchy socks with my dresses at that age?

It won't be the first time someone is telling her she's too young for something. She'll get over it...even if she puts up a fight.
YOU CAN DO IT!!

I'm sure I had some E.G.s and Keds stashed away once the 'heels' started to hurt.

Re: Jr Bridesmaid???
-puts on the Rocky theme song for her.- definetly too young. The poster that mentioned 13 and 14 year olds-that's a big diff. My cousin was 14 and she wore the same dress as the other girls but she looks older than she is, just as those two girls in that posted pic did. 12 is just eh...I agree with the women who have said make it out more as a thing to set her apart, not to 'punish her' for being a child which is how she will take it (from exp with teachign rotten 11 yr olds) if you tell her its because she is only 12. If she gives you lip, hey it's her job because she IS a kid. Ignore her and tell her its your big day and you would really like to have this. if she goes for it, maybe give her a little gift thats diff than the adult BMs when you give them theirs and make sure to take at least one wedding day pic with her alone. Kids that age also like to be helpful so maybe give her a 'task' like running around day of and making sure everyone has their Couquets or she can deliver the boutineres to the guys-anything to make her feel she is important in this wedding and to you.
