July 4 wedding?

July 4 wedding?

I need opinions on July 4 weddings. Just when I thought I have the date and place, FH says what about July 4th b/c its a sunday (save money). I think people want to have their holiday. ALso July 4 2004 is on a sunday..do they even have monday off? We have a lot of out of town guests (Fh and I live in MD...his whole fam is from there) so we thought it might work to have the party on sunday as long as people have the monday off. Do you think it is annoying to have a July 4th wedding? Would you mind giving up your own holiday? Plus I think a lot of places are booked already.

I think its a good idea. I also think that having it on the Saturday of 'july 4th weekend' is a good idea also because I think that some places offer discounts because its a holiday weekend that no one books for. I wanted to do that for mine however my FI disagreed thinking that we would be taking the holiday away from everyone b/c a lot of people like to go away for that weekend. While I dont agree -I gave in. I feel that whoever really wants to be at your wedding will not think it is an inconvenience to give the weekend up. But I gave in!!!

Sounds like a fun idea to me!! Just a thought....traffic on July 4th is crazy....do you plan to have the ceremony and reception in the same place?

I'm having my wedding on July 4 this year, and the only complaint we've heard is from my uncle who lives in South Jersey and complains about anything that's not in his backyard.

I am getting married on the 4th this year and when I was considering everyone said to me we never know what to do its perfect. I just sent my invitations out and I have already got 20 responses back and 19 are yes so I dont think people have a problem with it!

I so wanted 7/4...but my two fave halls were both booked 1 1/2 years in advanced!!!

I lucked out...b/c this past year...it was a massive heat wave!!!

but...if 7/4 is a sunday...7/5 is a federal holiday...most m-f workers will have mon off...so go for it

2004 federal holidays

Ok, I'll be the one to disagree. I think weddings on holidays should be done only if there is no other option. Traveling will be much more difficult and expensive for your guests -- plus you are likely to be disrupting plans. Sure people love you and will change their plans for you, but why make them do that?

Jamie,

I'm not totally against a 7/4 wedding...but...I would hate to see you be disappointed if a lot of people couldn't make it and that was the reason. You have to be ready for that to happen.

I think its a great idea. Anyone that is close to you including family and friends will not mind when your wedding date is. They would rather be with you celebrating. I am getting married New Years Eve and feel like if anyone complains, they dont have to come...

Honestly, I have to side with Valenia here. While I have been to holiday weekend weddings, and they have been great, it has always been difficult to get around. Traffic was a nightmare on both occasions (One was Memorial day,the other Labor day). A July 4th wedding, when people are off the next day is not necessarily a bad idea, but July 4th can be hell to get around. You have to consider the fact that people will cut short trips and face bad traffic, but you will too. I would be afraid to risk getting stuck on the LIE, Southern State, Northern state, Belt Parkway, or whatever it may be, in my limo on my way to get married.

I'm in a 4th of July wedding which is out of state and the plane tickets are $100 more than if it was the previous or following weekend. Keep in mind if you have oot guests their travel and accommodations might be higher, even if your site fees, etc. are lower.

I agree with Valenia and Misty.....FI and I always do something special on 7/4 and would be dissapointed to cancel....and then traveling is always more $$$ and a hassle with the crowds of people that are always on the roads....

I have never been a fan of holiday weekend weddings...but that is JMO!!! I have also been to some that were great....

Re: July 4 wedding?

My wedding is 7/5/03, so obviously I like the idea of a 4th of July weekend wedding. We have a lot of people traveling out of town and the response we have gotten from them is overwhelmingly glad that we picked a weekend where everyone has friday off. We are having a BBQ on the Fourth and you can see alot of fireworks from my parents backyard.

I went to a wedding last July 4th weekend. I totally didn't mind giving up my holiday. I love our friends that got married that day and giving up July 4th never even crossed my mind.

Hopefully your guests will be too excited and happy about your marriage to care about the holiday

I will be honest here too and say that I would only book a holiday weekend wedding if there is absolutely no other option. I would feel I might be intruding on peoples' holiday plans.

Maybe I am biased because this year, I have wedding-related events for Memorial weekend, July 4th, Labor Day and Thanksgiving weekend and I am extremely annoyed.

I've been to a few weddings on July 4 weekends and I don't mind at all. The way I look at it...I'm sure the important people in your life would rather celebrate your day with you than go to the beach.

Re: July 4 wedding?

Well I was just warming up to the idea of having it on July 4th...but it seems a lot of other people liked that idea too. Most of the places that I like and considered for my wedding (originally July 10th) are now booked. I am so stressed about what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to have it on the water so people could see the fireworks and stuff..so they wouldn't be missing out on thier holidays. I'll keep you all updated as to what happens. Thanks.
