July 4th party

I need ideas for a July 4th party – but I don’t want to bbq. Its going to be an evening party – 4.00 pm onwards – ending up in a local outdoor bar with live music.

I have a coupon from a caterer, and I am thinking of using them for the main dish, but what can I add – should I do red, white and blue (???) food, or traditional US / July 4th style food ? If I do traditional US / July 4th food, can you give me suggestions?

Re: July 4th party

You can do a watermelon shaped as a basket with all sorts of freshly cut fruit inside. You can use red, white and blue napkins as decorations.

Re: July 4th party

I'm having a 4th of July party too but I'm cooking at my house-
we will be having traditional fare:

green salad
potato salad
coleslaw

grilled flank steak
Moroccan chicken
shrimp kabobs

string bean salad
baked beans
grilled veggies

fruit salad

fourth of july cake (basically a rectangle layer cake with a big flag on it)

Re: July 4th party

No BBQ at all? Do you want a more easy going festive type party or a sit-down dinner type party?

Re: July 4th party

I would make it simple... potato salad macaroni salad and coleslaw can be made ahead of time...

Get a watermellon, scoop it out and fill it up with different fruits.

Re: July 4th party

How about a 'hero'/big sandwich? You can order it too.
