July 4th Wedding??

July 4th Wedding??

Hey Ladies!

Are there any 4th of July Brides out there? I'm considering this date in 2013, but I wanted to see what the pros and cons are. Any thoughts?

We have a lot of out of town guests and I'm worried about Long Island traffic, but also nervous about doing it over a holiday. Any 2012 brides have more than usually declines because of the date?

Thanks so much!!

We're actually getting married July 3rd, 2013. Originally we were looking at a Friday night wedding for financial reasons, but figured a weeknight before a holdiay was basically the same thing, since everyone is off anyway. Plus, a weeknight was even cheaper than a Friday night. We figure doing it the night before the holiday will still give people time to barbecue or go to the beach or whatever the next day.

I'm getting married July 4th next year

It's perfect because you have that day off and the next day as well. Then after that is the weekend. It is perfect for OOT guest because they can take off the entire week if they want to or still make it back home for the weekend.

All I suggest is if you are going to do it on a holiday is book your vendors. I found some place don't work on holidays, are already booked or charge extra for the holiday.

Thank goodness I found some vendors who are treated it as a regular day.

Hope this helps!

We were considering it for 2012... BUT regardless of the fact that it is a national holiday, don't forget anyone that works in the medical field - some do have to work on holidays.

A bunch of FHs family got all riled up when we suggested the 4th. So we stayed away.

I did notice some halls had lower prices for the holiday.

I'm Friday July 5. We wanted a July 4th-like wedding because the 4th has been a special date for us but with FH job wanted to stay away from the actual date and since it's a weekday next year it was easy to avoid. I originally wanted Saturday 7/6 but could get more on the Friday. Looking forward to having the extra time with friends and family! So far no problems with the date. Still crossing fingers for fireworks!! ALso trying to talk FH into RD on the 4th.

haha me too! I plan on sending out STD fairly early so people won't make plans. I'm sure there might be a few people who are annoyed that it's a holiday weekend, but then they don't have to come. It gives the majority of other people (including out of towners and family) time to travel and enjoy the day without rushing home for work the next day.

This! A few yard ago I went to a wedding the night before THANKSGIVING! I missed the church because I couldn't get out of work early, got further delayed by all the train commuters, and couldn't do any Thanksgiving Eve cooking/baking. It was super aggrivating. The only consolation was their favors; a full size pumpkin pie. I brought it to my parent's house the following day to add to the dessert table. I still missed my usual bake like a crazy person tradition though.

Re: July 4th Wedding??

We booked for July 4th 2014. We wanted the 3rd but it was already taken. I'm happy with the date though. People are going to complain regardless and the 4th wasn't a big holiday in our family anyway. So instead of going to a BBQ, people will come to our wedding.

People complain no matter what the date is...pick a day that works best for you. We're getting married the Sunday Labor Day weekend, sent out STDs a year in advance. We had a few complaints and someone told us they weren't going to come because they don't want to make the trip down to LI for Labor Day weekend. I just don't even care anymore - the people who really want to be there, will be there! And that's what matters

I agree! We're getting married Labor Day Weekend too and I'm like look if you want to come great, if you don't then great, saves us some $, but you're going to miss a great party

I think having it on a holiday weekend (not including Christmas) is helpful to most people because then they don't have to take off work to travel to you or they already had days off anyway so it's not an incovenience.

I'm getting married July 4, 2014 and I don't think that prices are cheaper. Maybe because it's a Friday that year. But it's all regularly prices.

I originally wanted the 3rd, but it was already booked. I like the 4th though because everyone has off (and what someone mentioned about the medical field, even if you picked a Saturday they might not have then off either), everyone has off the next day, and we'll get free fireworks!!!

I'd just book your vendors. Like photographer and DJ especially first. Because it is a holiday so you want to make sure they are free.

Lol didn't even realize I posted twice! Sorry

July 4th Wedding??

My wedding is July 3, 2013, I live in Queens and am having my ceremony and reception at watermill in smithtown. I love the fact that mostly everyone is off the next day and I totally agree people complain no matter what the day. Do exactly what you want.
