We're actually getting married July 3rd, 2013. Originally we were looking at a Friday night wedding for financial reasons, but figured a weeknight before a holdiay was basically the same thing, since everyone is off anyway. Plus, a weeknight was even cheaper than a Friday night. We figure doing it the night before the holiday will still give people time to barbecue or go to the beach or whatever the next day.
Just got married on Sat 7/7 which many considered 4th of July weekend since the 4th fell on a Wednesday. Only a few people replied no due to the fact that they would be on vacay for the holiday. One thing I realized is that hotel prices were higher being that they considered it a holiday weekend so I tried to negotiate the room block rate as best as I could for my guests- you may want to look into this sooner than later b/c rooms may fill quickly. Other than that there weren't any issues due to the date.
