July 4th weekend questions

July 4th weekend questions

For all those who were, are or were planning to get married on July 5th (sorry 070502 ) did you or can you have your rehearsal on July 4th? It never occurred to me that this might be a problem, but my mother seems to think that the church will be closed on the 4th or something and that I will have to have my rehearsal on the 3rd. Has anyone run into this or heard of this? I'm a little nervous becuase so many people who need to be at the rehearsal are from out of town. I didn't think that churches closed for holidays!

I'm getting married on 7/4/03 and having my rehearsal on 7/3/03. Churches do not close on holidays.

Hi Becky - The church should be open for you to have your rehearsal. If you are planning to have a rehearsal dinner afterwards I would do it near where people can view fireworks that night.

Thanks for the thought.
Our Rehearsal would have been 5:30 on the 4th and then we were going to BBQ and go to the park and see Fireworks.
Our inital plan was to go to jones beach cafe for the dinner and stay for the fireworks but they didn't have the room for us.
Talk to you priest he will work with you.
They can do it on the 4th though:)

Good Luck!

HELLO I AM GETTING MARRIED ON 7/4/2003 AND THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE CHURCH IS FINDING A PRIEST TO MARRY YOU AT THE TIME YOU WANT.. I GUESS THEY LIKE TO PARTY ONCE IN A WHILE ALSO

Re: July 4th weekend questions

The only problem you may have is that you may not have anyone to actually do the rehearsal on the 4th. Many churches have 'regular' people do the rehearsals as opposed to the priests. Also, many rectorys are closed for the holidays, so there wouldn't be anyone to open the church up for you. Also, many restaurants are closed on the 4th of July, so you might have a hard time finding a place to go, unless you're having a BBQ.

I would suggest having your rehearsal on the 3rd, this way everyone can hang out late if they wish to and not have to worry about getting up early the next day. A friend of mine who got married on 7/5 this year did this and she said it worked out much better this way.

Just a thought.

Re: July 4th weekend questions

I wouldn't mind having it earlier, I am just concerned because my FI and I, and a good chunk of the people who we need at the RD are from out of town. We are in MD, his parents are in FLA, a brother in ILL, another bro & family in VA, etc. I am not sure that everyone will be able to be there! My mom is calling the church for me ( a good thing to give her to take of so she feels involved ) so hopefully that will put my mind at ease.

Thanks for all of the responses.
