Jury Duty

Jury Duty

I got called for Jury Duty scheduled to arrive at the Brooklyn Courthouse however being I was recently married and moved to another borough am I excused?

I am sure I need to show proof of my new residence, do I need to present it to them in person or do you think they would accept a fax?

It would be so much easier if I can get someone on the phone and speak with a live person...I hate automated systems

I believe the Brooklyn Courthouse is for people from all boroughs and can even include Long Island. I think it's either Federal or Criminal or something like that. I got called in December and I live in Queens but my company asked for a deferral for me and it was granted.

go there and show them the paper work that you are in a different borough, usually you have to go there, i dont think they do faxes, but its worth a try

I see, thanks Ang...I appreciate the info. Oh well, I get some time off from work...that's a good way to look at it

Re: Jury Duty

Just double check the pamphlet that they included with the summons. When I got called there was a pamphlet and it made mention of the fact that all boroughs and LI had to report. If you don't have one then maybe this is not the right thing - and then I apologize because I guess you need to call someone.

Isn't that one Federal Court? In that case, you can be anywhere, basically, and have to report. I live in Nassau & had to trek to Bklyn for a week for jury duty.

Re: Jury Duty

If you are to serve in federal court you do not have to reside on Brooklyn. If you are to serve in Brooklyn Supreme Court, or Criminal Court then you should be a brooklyn resident.
