Jury Duty - Updated

I had to call in from Friday, yesterday they called my number so I went today and just sat all day. Now I have to go back tomorrow!

Anyone wanna share their memory of jury duty? How many days did you haveto go for, tips, etc.

Update - Luckily I got out of it today! It was so boring just sitting around. Thanks everyone for sharing their experience!

Re: Jury Duty

I hate mine because since where I live is considered part of Manhattan I got called for like Supreme Court Jury and had to go down there every day for a month... I wasnt working or going to school at the time so the $40 a day was good LoL...

Another time I went the week of July 4th and it was on a Tuesday... I went on the 3rd they dismissed us all and we didnt have to go back...

I've had both good and bad memories of Jury Duty

Re: Jury Duty

um i had a terrible jury duty experience..i got called and had to sit 2 days. on the second day i was selected for a trial. it was a criminal trial that lasted about 7 days. it was miserable.

i am exempt in nyc for jury duty for like 8 years now though!

I went about 4 years ago. It was so boring. I tried to get a bunch of people together for a game of charades to pass the time away...no one was into it.

I'm staring at my SC Juror Summons. I can start calling on Friday the 23rd after 4pm for Monday the 26th. It's not good for me. I just had a bowling match rescheduled from MLK Day to the 26th!!!

Did anyone ever try to check on line before they were supposed to?

Re: Jury Duty

the way i have gotten out of it is by telling them i hate lawyers....like when you finally get called and they start asking you questions...just respond really nasty and tell them something horrible

I had to go once, it was for the grand jury, I sat there and they didn't select me so my job still paid me so it was fine.

Hey if we're both in the same place maybe we could do lunch?!?

How serious are they about the no cell phones that have cameras? I thought they all had that now. I will be lost without my phone for a whole day even if I have a Harry Potter book to read.

I had it last year...It wasnt sooo bad...I was picked for a case in civil court. I was there for a total of 4 days. I was actually hoping for 1 more day so that I wouldnt have to go back to work

Re: Jury Duty

since i lived upstate, NY for a while, i get called for jury duty there & in brooklyn.

the one time i got called for upstate luckily they never got to my number.

the time i got called for brooklyn, i had to go in a fill out a 100 page questionaire (no joke) because there were 3 people being tried. 1 was facing the death penalty, the other 2 were facing life in prison. a month after the attorneys & judge reviewed all the questionaires i had to go back for a second day. this time i had to sit in front of all the lawyers, plaintiffs & defendents & judge. the judge asked me a series of questions about the death penalty & eventually i was dismissed. i was the most nerve wracking experience ever.

I have a feeling....IF I have to go - it will probably be Riverhead....I am keeping my fingers crossed though!
