Hoping for advice on florists! For my uber-budgeted wedding, we're cutting back on everything, from having a friend do our videography to buying the veil and other items on ebay. As far as flowers go, we decided to just buy a ton of silk petals in the wedding color and an inexpensive aisle runner for the ceremony decorations, make homemade bows to decorate the ceremony chairs, and have floating candles with freeze dried petals for the centerpieces.
So far, so good. But as far as flowers go, since we are having an untraditional ceremony (no officiant required by state law for my Faith, so we're having our bridal party do all the readings!), the bridesmaids will be carrying readings instead of flowers, and we tossed out the boutonnieres for the men.
So this means that we basically only need a bouquet for me. But is that even a request we can make of any florist without them laughing in our face? How much do you think *just* a nice bouquet would cost? (if we can even get someone to do this...)
This probably sounds like a really weird wedding. It kind of will be, but hopefully it will also be beautiful and unique *fingers crossed*...
Soo, thoughts?

Re: JUST a bouquet??
I'm pretty sure that some girls have used supermarket florists (Stop & Shop comes to mind here) and had a lot of luck with them. This may be an option for a fairly inexpensive but lovely bouquet.
Your best betwould be to go to a regular florist...not a known wedding florist because they tend to overchrge when they hear the w word. I am using Burtons who is very inexpensive but most places can charge anywhere from $150 up for 1 bo-k. try talking to your local florist to design something cool and unique...thats what i would do!

Re: JUST a bouquet??
My bq cost $150 and any florist can do one depending on the flowers and size. My mom walks in weekly to our local florist with a vase and asks for arrangement with certain colors and/or flowers. So i don't think its a issue.

Not to throw you for a loop...but have you considered carrying a single calla lily or sunflower...I can't imagine it being more than five bucks for one and there is something elegant about a single flower....I'm pretty sure that's what my girls are doing since each of them is walking with two guys and I think Bo-ks will look weird...that could def save you money if you just carry one flower! Also have you seen the candle table numbers that are all the rage now? I just made them my self for like 6 bucks each and they serve and table numbers and centerpieces and they could totally save you money and they look awesome! You could even throw petals around them to add a special touch(that's what I am doing) I could sen you a pic if you want

I'm definitely thinking more along the lines of your typical big bouquet in my wedding color- deep purple. I'd love a hodge podge of dark purple flowers. We're budgeting but certain things like the bouquet itself, a professional photographer, or a string quartet, or other random smaller things like cute favor boxes, we had to go all in on (after a lot of price comparing and shopping around, of course!)
I'm concerned with Stop and Shop as well, since I want it to be properly put together, not hand tied. That was what sparked the concerns; I'd love the beautifully wrapped kind, you know, with the little fake pearl pins and all of that pretty stuff. I don't even know what you call this stuff- I feel so naive!
So it's not that I don't want a nice bouquet, it's more that I want ONLY a bouquet..

Order one from 1-800-Flowers.com or proflowers! They do very nice work - I used to work for 1-800-Flowers.
Preston Bailey's designs are BEAUTIFUL and they have a few purple ones. I knew the guy who puts them together and he does a fantastic job - they are all done in Bethpage so you could probably pick it up the day before or morning of if you wanted.

That seems like a good idea but when/where would it arrive so that it'd be fresh? And would it be wrapped (or whatever lingo you're supposed to be using to talk flowers) or just bundled up with elastic bands or in some plastic holder? I just didn't know if the internet could deliver a bridal bouquet fresh like that- hmm

See my above edit. The Preston Bailey bouquets are made in Bethpage and would be delivered to you the day of the wedding, or you could pick up the night before if you needed it super early (you would just put it in water overnight). It would definitely be wrapped like a bridal bo-k and be gorgeous.
If you call the wedding consultant line listed at the top of the page, you are sent to special phone agents who only handle special orders like weddings. they will take very good care of you

Re: JUST a bouquet??
i would suggest making your own bo-k out of silk or other fake flowers, cheaper and then it could be a keepsake for you to have forever.... i had a second fake bo-k made for me cuz i realized i wanted to have 1 to keep the week of my wedding, she made an exact replica for me and i have it our glass card box with my tiara and some other wedding stuff... just a thought

Re: JUST a bouquet??
im pretty sure any regular florist can put together a lovely boquet for u. my mom went to a florist and got me a $100 bo-k for my civil ceremony (i think i have pics in my album) and she said it can be double in size for $200. but mine was pretty big as it is. it was gorgeous. ask around...i dont think its a out-of-ordinary request to have 'just' a bo-k made. i mean.....dont we all have bo-ks made for mothers day or birthdays.......

Re: JUST a bouquet??
i would go to a florist, unless you have a talented friend who can make one for you, and you can buy the flowers from the flower district.
If a florist laughs in your face they shouldnt be in business. It doesnt hurt to try, do you want me to email FBB for you and see if they can make you a bo-k?

Re: JUST a bouquet??
i had a florist make just a bouquet and a bout for us for portraits we took on our first anniversary. just a bo-k isnt a crazy request. its business. price...totally varies. depending on type of flowers, size, and simplicity/complexity...between 70-200+?
heres a pic of that (smaller) bo-k. it was only 80 total (w/ bout!). this was in pa tho.and she threw a couple orchids in, which i love.

Re: JUST a bouquet??
You could do silk, mine was and it only cost me $60, i had it made a a craft store (Micheals does them.)
I am sure you can. Or try making one yourself would be the cheaper way. I dont know prices though. Mine was $300 so I am not sure what you can spend. Good luck.
