personlly, i feel that the bouquet toss is an antiquated tradition where women longed to be married... where being single was bad. i have loved my single life and don't believe that anyone should feel a need to be teh 'next bride.'
as for the garter toss... i just think it is tacky. but that is my opinon only - i know that many other brides (including my sister in law) did this and that it is a time-honored tradition.

Re: Just a question
We are not going to do it because there will be very few single guests at my wedding. I am the last one of my very close friends to get married.

Re: Just a question
Most of our friends are already engaged or married, so we opted not to do this. I gave my toss bouquet to my good friend and I didn't even wear a garter.

Re: Just a question
I went to a friends wedding last year with a friend instead of my FH (just about a month before we got engaged, b/c he had to work). They did the garter thing, etc. I was forced by all my married friends to get out there, and I told my 'date' (my FH's friend) that if I caught it - he had better be there to get the garter otherwise FH would not be happy with him (really I wouldn't have been happy). Also, the garter toss is always done so late in the evening when everyone that has been drinking is a bit too sloshed, and make a spectacle.
I don't want to do it at our wedding for a couple of reasons - first, like none of our friends are single, and second, the anniversary dance is much more tasteful. It also honors a couple that has been married the longest in the room. After all, marriage is the exact reason why everyone is together celebrating.

Re: Just a question
i am not a huge fan of the traditions. add to that FI is extremely shy and didn't want to be putting his hands up my dress for all the families to see!!

Re: Just a question
I am doing both. I have 3 single girls who will probably brawl for the bo-k so i am in for some great america's funniest home video footage. I have one who will probably bring a catchers mit with her to the wedding.
My Matron said she would sneak up and see if her hubby notices.

Re: Just a question
FH and I decided on that right from the begining. We both are very modist people and get imbarressed very easy. I can't picture myself with my dress being tossed up for him to go fishing in front of all our family and friends. We both didn't care for the idea, nor do we like doing it at weddings we attend...so therefore we came to the conclusion to leave it out. The only thing I might do, is toss the b-ok at the end of the night from the balcany that over looks the dance floor at our reception site. Just a way to say 'good bye', so after I toss it, we will make our exit.

Re: Just a question
We really don't have a lot of single friends left. So it wouldn't really work.

Re: Just a question
I would hate to have my FH having to pull something from underneath my dress!!! about tossing my bouquet, I have not decided yet, but I am not having too many single girls in my wedding.

Re: Just a question
i am also not doing it. barely any single friends will be there and the ones that are single i know would not go up to the dance floor for it. i feel at weddings that people always feel dragged up there.

Re: Just a question
WE decided not to for 2 reasons: 1) We don't know a lot of single people and 2) It takes more time out of all the dancing. It's a good 10-15 minute delay to do it and I'd rather have that time dancing with people.

Re: Just a question
We probably will not do the bo-k and garter toss because there will be so few single people at our wedding. However, the anniversary dance is out as well because my parents are divorced and only my father is remarried (for over 20 years). We haven't decided what we're going to do, if anything.

Re: Just a question
We decided to not do either...
for many of the reasons stated above... **not liking it when we were single **not wanting to make out few single friends go up **the cheese factor **more dance time (we didn't want people to stop dancing)
but we did do the anniversary dance...and I'm so happy that we did...instead of pretending that there was a new love that could begin...we honored a long lasting marriage...the couple at our wedding were married for 58 years!! and the wife cried...she was so honored...
at my sister's wedding they did the same and the wife from the couple that won...died 2 months later...but how wonderful was it that they were honored that way right before!!
it just fit for our wedding...
