Just booked, I have 8 months...omg what do I do next?!
Okay so we just booked Hamlet Willow Creek today for Oct 8 2010, and we're thrilled. BUT, it's 2 am and it just sank in that I have less than 8 months and a ton of work to do, esp considering the short time. Anyone have suggestions on how to prioritize things from here? What do I do next? Dress? DJ? Flowers? I don't know what to do in what order! Help! TIA

i will only be engaged for 8 months also and so far so good. It's been two months and I got a lot done: RH, dress, BM dresses, dj, photographer/videographer, hotel block, and about to finalize limos.
First, you want the biggies: DJ or band, Photo/video, and start looking for your dress now.
Look on here for reviews of different vendors. Look at weddingwires, ask your reception hall, friends, etc.
Make goals for each month. A lot of your time at first will be researching and calling places and going to appts.
It's fun! Dont let the short time stress you out. Just look around and make quick and informed decisions.

Officiant, Dress, Photo/Video and DJ should be done NOW
After that, flowers, invites, hair and makeup
then limos, etc

I found a helpful checklist on weddingchannel . com:
It tells you what you should be doing based on how much time is left before your wedding.
I think you might have to register though to use it (which is really easy)

Date Twin !!! Im totally the slacker bride procastinating everything even though my rh is all inclusive I cant pull all my ideas together long enought to decide on anything

Congrats!! That's great!!
You still have plenty of time, so don't go too crazy. First I'd work on the dress. That can take awhile to come in, so I think that should be number 1 priority.
Then, I'd work on whatever vendor you feel is most important. Photography was really important to me, so they were the first vendor we booked. I'd also think about STDs and if you want to send them. I think the latest I would send them is 6 mos. out, but the earlier the better!

Congrats!!! I think you can do it! I'd look into photo, video, and DJ next. As long as you are flexible you should be fine.

my best bet would be start with the DRESS! most designers import gowns so it takes time to get it in, also even those who make it here in the US takes time as well.
next stop would be the flowers, photo+video. if you want it easier, get a packaged deal where everything is included.

Thanks for the direction! It's exactly what I needed as my mind just swirled and swirled! Still freaking a little but now I at least understand what I should be doing next and why. Think I'll make some dress appts and start getting some photog & DJ quotes. When should I throw bridesmaids dress selection in there?
I have come across a few timelines (like on LIW) but have avoided them b/c of all the flashing, bold, red 'past due!' reminders that pop up. It's my equivalent of when the Tetris music gets super fast in the last 10 seconds. AAAHH, lol!

THe rule of thumb that I followed was to first book the vendors that could only do one event in one day (i.e. photographer, dj/band, videographer), and from there move on to your dress, which will help set the mood for the decor, then the vendors that could do multiple weddings in a day (florist, limos, tuxes, makeup/hair). Hope this helps!

Hmm, that makes a ton of sense. Hadn't thought of it like that so thanks! Only thing I'm worried about is finding a dress I love and either having to pay to rush it or not being able to order it in time at all, so I hesitate to wait on the dress.

I would get on booking the Church, if you are having a church wedding, and then on to Photography and your entertainment ie: band, DJ and also totally start looking for dresses you would like to try on. HTH!
