A friend of mine is having a baby in December and is having a girl. My friend and her hubby absolutely love a particular name (an uncommon name); however, my friend's husband's brother dated a girl with the same name for a few years but they broke up over 6 years ago. My friend is hesitant about using the name because she doesn't want to offend her bro-in-law. I think it's okay for her to use the name since the relationship was so long ago, but she is hesitant about it.
Talking to my friend about this made me wonder how others would feel about this topic. Would you use a name for your baby that was the same as an ex of a family member of either you or your FH??? Specifically an ex from 5++ years ago.

FHs bro has had a few gf's over the years that I didn't particularly care for. If the name was associated with them, I wouldn't do it. No matter how long ago they dated

the only way i would not us a name is if it was one of our exs meaning the parents or of someone i dont like
for example i loved the name miranda but had an unpleasant experience with one in high school so the name is no longer going to be used

My ex's name is Alejandro or Alex, I love the name, but the closest we'll get to it is Alessandra for a girl....

depends on how much the person pissed me off! no jk but I dont think its a big deal, esp since FBIL is a manwhoore and girls come and go so I cant keep eliminating names, otherwise I would be stuck with Esther! (no offense of anyone IS named esther on here i promise! )

I think it depends on how 'unusual' we are talking. For example, I have an ex with a VERY unusual name. He is the only person I have ever heard of with that name. If my sister decided she wanted to name her future son that, yes...I'd be super creeped out.

but it depends again on whether the couple having the baby associates the name to her all the time . there is one name I wouldn't use, not bC i hated teh guy, but bc I couldn't stand him and every time I hear the name I think about that guy lol
