Engagement Parties Rehersal Dinners
are such a big PLANNING thing?
Is it necessary

I feel the same way that's why I'm not an Engagement Party. To be honest w/ you, I don't think anyone in my famliy has ever done these things. And since were on the topic me family normally does a bridal shower, and after a bachleret party after the shower. And it's never like three months ahead.
Actually no that I think of it I can think of alot of things on this site, that I've seen pertaining to wedding planning that we don't do. Oh well, everyone's different I guess.

i dont wanna offend anyone but honestly, why do people have such big engagement parties? for like 80 and more people? its not a wedding, its a party for both sides of the family to meet. it shouldnt be extravagant to me. its a waste of money! to me its like trying to show off a lil bit :-/ i hope no one is offended

I'm not ofended at all, but I'm bias b/c I agree w/ it being a waste of money. But to each it's own b/c it's JMO.

No e-party here. We just had a dinner at a restaurant with our parents, siblings and BP (around 20 people).
As for RD everyone who is at the rehearsal is going for dinner after. Nothing crazy and no invites. I just don't have the time.

Yeah, I don't undertand that mentality either. We had an e-party at a restaurant- we did have invites, and balloons as centerpieces. Not a big deal. For the RD it was at a casual italian restaurant - no invites we just called/emailed everyone about it.

I agree. to me, some of them are kinda like mini-weddings. Does it take away from the big event if you are having a mirror-image event a year ahead of time?

i think it definetely takes it away. just like (this is not the same but is) when you see the girls going to their proms or their sweet 16 and they're wedding dresses.. why?? seriously? then you dont have the excitement like your wedding day
and my tattoo artist moved a bunch of times in the past 2 and a half years that it took to get the tattoo done. thanks

We had a small engagement party-just at a Knights of Columbus. My parents had it for us. IWe had the greatest time at ours. And it wasnt really too stressful to plan.

Re: Just curious.... as to why ......
I've never been big on the engagement party - I don't understand the reason. My FI and I actually planned a dinner so our immediate families could meet and it turned into a small party with about 60 people (immediate family & close friends). It was really nice and in the end, I'm glad we did it.
I kinda like the idea of the RD so if people in the BP don't already know each other, they can meet & hang out right before the wedding.

to each his own.
We had one we we are having a DW and understand that not many people will make it over. We did DIY invites, but not CP or favors. Just wasnt in the budget!

I didn't have one and frankly it didn't matter to me to have one. As for a rehersal dinner, we are doing something very low key, maybe a BBQ or a dinner at FMIL's.

We didnt have an engagement party just b/c of that reason, didnt want to have to plan all these parties while trying to plan the big one! The RD on the other hand we are leaving to the parents!

Re: Just curious.... as to why ......
My FFIL's took care of the e-party which was really simple, we printed out invites on really cute pink paper, and made my mom the rsvp. We had a bigger party than I wanted but it was at FH firehouse, which we decorated with balloons and whatnot, it was a lot of fun. The clean up would have killed us though, his aunt hired a woman to do it as her present Thank God! They are also taking care of the RD. The only problem here is that FMIL wants it at the FH again HELL NO! The church is in East Northport and the fire house is in Plainview! I don't want everyone getting there at liek 9pm afterwards then have to wait even longer to eat while she cooks, and THEN head home and get up really early the next morning. I know I'm gonna have to put my foot down on this one, but I have to wait!
sorry reallized I was on a rant there.

Re: Just curious.... as to why ......
We are almost done planning our E-party it took hardly anytime. Food, bartender, decorations, invites are out and we have most of our replies! We aren't doing any favors-my friend gave out cheesy favors at hers and we were turned off. There's no need to waste $ on cheap favors, and we don't want to spend a fortune on great favors. We don't want a RD though-we're trying to avoid.

We had an e-party and let me tell you...it was fun but just WAAAAYYY too crazy! We had it at my house and my poor mom didn't even get to sit and enjoy herself...we had it catered but it was almost as if she cooked!! I just felt so bad...we were going to try and have the rehearsal dinner at my house too but after that....its a NO-GO!! Don't get me wrong...I appreciated the party and had a good time but I just felt like I couldn't talk to everyone as much as they deserved to. It is a tough one sometimes
