I'm in Orlando planning my LI wedding. How often do you girls go home? I'm home like every month!!!! It's crazy AND expensive How has your experience been with booking vendors? I'm having my family help a lot with the meetings. I usually finalize vendors once a month when I visit.
Booking hair seems to be my biggest challenge so far. Any suggestions? I need to set up a trial for June or July.

Re: Just Curious--How Many OOT Brides?
I don't really know if I count as an OOT bride, but I'm having my wedding in CT & live in LI, so I guess I'm kinda OOT lol??
However, I don't really think that CT is that far away, so IMO I'm not really an OOT bride, but some people would probably claim differently.

Re: Just Curious--How Many OOT Brides?
Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..... I live in Fort Lauderdale and planning my wedding from here in NY. I do not go to NY often. I have been twice...once to book my venue and the other to book all my vendors. I wish I could travel alot but its very difficult as FH and I have a 5 mth old baby. I would have asked my sister but she is so caught up in her wedding which is why I'm having a hard time ...so no help from family
Hair and Makeup is the hardest. Its even worst when you can't go for a trial and you have to use your wedding day as trial and day of services....so I'm really using this website for good tips and help with the make up and hair....I love LIW

Re: Just Curious--How Many OOT Brides?
I live in California and am planning my wedding in NY. I hoped to make more trips to NY, but it just hasn't happened. So vendors have been a real challenge to me. I haven't met a single one!
I actually haven't even seen my hall in person! !!! I spent a week in NY looking at halls and in the end I got my hours cut in half at the job I was working and we couldn't afford any of them. So I found this hall online and asked FH to go take pictures. I must be the craziest bride ever!
The florist and hair and makeup have been my biggest challenges by far. I actually gave up. I booked a florist for the bo-ks and I'm doing the rest myself. I'm also doing my own hair and makeup.
I knew planning from so far away would be a challenge, but I never imagined it would be THIS difficult. Thank God for the HM!!!

Re: Just Curious--How Many OOT Brides?
Oh man, that's tough. I was an OOT Bride for just a little while. I was in a long distance relationship and was spending the summer with DH in Colorado when I needed to start wedding plans. I just basically did the only things i could do online and over the phone, like registering for gifts, creating my invitations, working with the DJ (song choices, contract, etc). But the big things like the hall, dress, and so on I just waited until I was home for. I couldn't imagine actually LIVING far away and trying to do a NY wedding. That must be hard.
DH stayed in Colorado though so he was an OOT groom (well fiance actually). He did a lot of research for me over the computer and ordered things that I didn't have time to deal with. But it was tough having to do everything alone since he wasn't actually WITH me to help out. He did what he could tho.
Best of luck to you. I'm sorry I don't have any real advice since I wasn't exactly in your shoes. I'd just say to do everything you CAN do while not in NY (like online & over the phone things) and leave all of the 'must be there' stuff for when you're actually in NY.

Me! I'm living in Syracuse with FH and planning from up here. I dont know how I would do it without these boards. I was able to narrow down my halls based on here and then spent a day going down to visit them. Even still I booked a florist without meeting them and makeup without trial. Thank goodness for LIW!

Re: Just Curious--How Many OOT Brides?
I was an OOT bride from the Orlando are also but now live back in NY. I made the trip every fews months while planning since 2005. I was married in 2007 and it was a pain in the butt. I actually found a package deal at the hotel i was having it at and would talk with the vendors over the phone and then 6 months before the wedding we met with everyone while visiting LI. My mom helped out tremendously running around to get certain things I needed and to talk to certain vendors. It helped us out alot so we did not have to go every month up to NY.

Re: Just Curious--How Many OOT Brides?
I am planning from Texas. I have done a lot of research on here. My parents did a lot of legwork on the hall. I booked most majro vendors in two trips last year. Everytime I come home I try to get something done. Presently, I am stressed with details and how exactly i am going to get my dress altered...

Re: Just Curious--How Many OOT Brides?
I'm in Brooklyn (not OOT) but FH lives in NC. It's been pretty difficult trying to coordinate things with him so far away since he's not here to meet with anyone so much of the time. We're not doing our epics until a month before the wedding and we're first doing our tasting less than a month before.
But it's ok. I'm so excited it doesn't even matter at this point!
I keep having to explain to the florist and other vendors that I can't meet with them on weeknights because of alternate side parking and the fact that with traffic I wouldn't get there until 10 pm after work. So silly!
If there's any way I can help do any legwork for you OOT ladies, LMK because I'd love to help!

I'm going on Saturday for my hair trial with Gina from Ultimate Look Salon in Farmingdale. I've never been there before but the location is perfect for me (really close to my mom's house) and someone on here recommended her once in passing. So I figured why not give it a shot! I don't want an updo, I want a blow-out (which is much more affordable).
I'll definitely bring back pics after Saturday and let you know how it goes!
A daughter of a good friend of my father's is going to do my makeup for my wedding. She's doing my trial on my epics day in June so I'll have TONS of pics... hopefully I like it! I don't like to wear a lot of makeup, so I'm going to go for a super-natural look. Her name is Auri Marcus and her website is http://aurimarcus.com/makeup.html . I'll be happy to share how that goes as well!
I'm doing a lot in the last month before the wedding but I'll definitely be sharing... 64 days to go now!

I am going to be an OOT town bride. FH and I will be in Fort Lauderdale while planning a wedding in LI. This is extremely difficult because LI is his home, not mine so everything is new to me! This site has been such a help so far!

I'm getting mine altered here in Florida and then when I fly up for the wedding, i'm carrying it on the plane. I have to call and double check with the airline, but i'm sure it wont be a problem. I think it would be way too difficult to get alterations on LI only because what happens if you need a last min alteration? You will be even more stressed out!
I'm getting married the week before you, so I will let you know how the travel goes and give you any tips/hints I come across!
