Just curious...is anyone NOT getting married at a hall/mansion?

Just curious...is anyone NOT getting married at a hall/mansion?

I ask because I went to a wedding last year upstate where my friend got married at her friends house. It was gorgeous to say the least! I was completely jealous. Then she rented out a restaurant for the reception - there was so much room and I had a great time. It was beautiful.

We wanted to get married in my FSILs backyard - I know we would have to rent a lot of stuff and hire caterers. The only reason we didnt do it is because we were hell-bent on having a DJ so noise was obviously a concern.

Anyone else getting married somewhere different?

Not me ... but let me just say years ago I had my sweet 16 in my backyard. Rented tents, linens, tables, food, dj, etc. Might as well been a mini-wedding with 150 guests. And it was fantastic! I wanted to do it for my wedding, but felt like it would be too much pressure on my parents. If one can manage it, it would be really cool!

we are having our reception at a restaurant, however my first choice was to have it a my parents house but they sold it for a smaller one!

Well, you could essentially do that. Rent a house, maybe in the hamtons or better yet Fire Island, but in the long run it would cost just the same if not more than a reception hall.

I think its a nice idea. I always think of how gorgeous it was in the movie 'Father of the Bride'.

My FBIL and his wife got married at their house in NJ a few years ago. It was really nice! They had a huge house with a lof of property. They rented a really big tent. They spent sooo much money though. More than the prices they got for reception halls in the area.

No - I am getting married at a church in Queens and having my reception at Chateau. I was just wondering if anyone was doing something like getting married/having the reception in a friends backyard or something different.

I tried to plan a wedding on someone’s property but it was way to expensive and I was worried about rain.

The house rentals out east were sooo much $$$$ I was actually quoted $40,000.00 for one home for the weekend, and that was before tents, chairs, linens, tables, china, glass wear etc. etc. etc.
I could have done it on public property or a private home on the water but then I would need to rent porta-potties and that was a turn off for me.

i just have to say that i worked with a lady last summer and she had her daughters wedding in her backyard.... she showed me pictures...it was top notch everything and it was no cheaper than a hall. She paid about $135 a plate after all said and done
she has a big beuatiful backyard
i say if you have a big enough backyard why not

We are getting married at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence Italy....

We looked into the tent/backyard thing for a party when we return, but everyone is right -- it was just as expensive as a hall!

ETA -- PARKING is also a major issue with backyard weddings...
