Recently engaged to my high school sweetheart. I actually wanted your opinion not on where but IF we should have a wedding. I know it's a dumb question and I shouldn't be on here but,.... after looking at prices I am not too sure if it is worth all that money for 1 day. (which I know would be unforgettable) I also know it our decision but would really like to know what past brides or anyone with an honest opinion think. Please don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic that I am engaged and wants to do all the things that come along with it. But is it worth it at the end??? Please help-needs some advice.

i definitely think it is worth it. it is one of the most important days of your life and it should be special. with that being said, maybe you should post this on the 09 boards since a lot of the brides on there have had their weddings and can tell you if they thought it was worth it. hth!

Congrats of your engagement
If you are looking for advice from past brides you will have more luck on the Brides Helping Brides board bc no one on the 2010 has had their wedding yet.
When first looking at the cost of things related to the wedding especially the RH it can be a bit overwhelming. There are A LOT of options to consider I do not think it is as black and white as have a wedding or not...it does not have to be a saturday evening black tie affair or nothing.
I would think about how much u and ur FH want to spend and see what you can get for that....if those things dont appeal to you...

Well, first off....CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be thrilled!!!
I think this is a personal question that you and FH have to really sit and think about. Just remember that your wedding will be one of the most important days of your lives and you don't want to look back and regret your final decision. Yes, at times the details and planning can drive me nuts, but I think I would regret NOT having one in the end. It really is a personal preference. Once we got engaged, many of my family members who are already married told us to us not to have a wedding at all and save the $$ and buy a house or put it in the bank. We thought about it for a few days and realized that we wanted a party to celebrate our love and the beginning of our lives with everyone. Personally for us, I think we would look back if we didn't have one and wish we could have done it differently.
You and FH should sit and talk long and hard about this since it is such a big decision. Maybe you can work with your budget and have a small and intimate wedding that will fit what you are looking to spend rather than spending more than what you are planning and comfortable spending. There are many DIY projects that can save you money in that aspect and if you get married in an off-season, that may cut the cost down also.
Best of luck to you and FH and do what makes YOU and HIM feel comfortable, not what everyone else tells you to do! Congratulations again!

welcome and congrats!!!!!!!!
as far as cost and all that, this is definitely your decision. to keep costs down, why not just doing something small with immediate family or have it at your home. there are just so many options out there to have an affordable wedding. good luck!

Congrats on your engagement. If money is an issue, I agree with the other girls and have a small, intimate wedding. There are definitely a lot of things that you can DIY. First, sit down and decide if you want to go through the expense and then decide if it's worth it. It's definitely worth it for us and I think checking with the girls on the 2009 boards can give you another perspective since a lot of the girls already got married. Good Luck.

Re: Just engaged 7.11.09
congratulations on your engagement!!!
Ultimately the decision should be between you & your FH. Everyone on the boards can tell you that sometimes when you ask for opinions, especially regarding your wedding, most people neglect to put your best interest firsts.
With that said, I truly believe that everyone should do something to celebrate their marriage. It is a very big step in our lives, & most people only plan on getting married once, so it should be special. If for you, a special thing would be to go to city hall & get married, then that's what you should do.
Yes a wedding is expensive and a lot of planning goes into it, but the majority of people say its well worth it in the end. You don't need to invite 300 people or have a custom made dress to have a great wedding. There are many ways to keep your cost down.
No matter what you decide, Good Luck.

Welcome & congrats!
IMO, I KNOW it will be worth it. However, that is my & my FH's personal opinion. We want a huge celebration with all of our family and friends. However, I think it is truly a personal decision. If it's not for you, don't feel like you have to.

Welcome and congrats!
I think it is worth it! But that is up to you and your FH! IMO - you don't have to have an over the top wedding - there are plenty of ways to keep on budget! You can have a small wedding, DIY so many things, have less flowers or no flower center pieces.
The only thing I would not skimp on would be the photo's because these are your memories! JMO
Good luck!

Re: Just engaged 7.11.09
i think its a personal decision that must be made. Personally it is a lot of money to be investing into one day. Im ecstatic to be planning and getting married. But we are paying out of pocket and the cost is personally quite scary. I thikn this is a once in a lifetime memory and if and your fh are gonna get married you guys should make it memorable. Maybe something less expensive or low key would be best for you guys. I hope this gave you some key insight. Congratulations. And hope everything works out for you guys

Re: Just engaged 7.11.09
Congratulations on your engagement. As for 'Is this worth it'? I think it is...or I wouldn't be doing it....LOL. However, I had the same perspective before getting into the planning. The wedding planning has brough us together, learning how to plan things together, pull it off, make decisions, work together, save... it sets the tone for what marriage is and I guess I didn't see it that way before going through it myself. There were days we questions eloping... or having a destination wedding... but we truly want our family and friends to be a part of this. So it is a personal decision that only the two of you can answer... I know that i want a wedding album and video to look back on. Also, my friends who didn't have one...all regret it.
