Re: just engaged
Congrats on the engagement. Take time to enjoy being engaged. If you are looking at spring of 2012 you have plenty of time.
The first thing IOU should do is figure out your budget and about how many people you are talking about by starting a guest list. Thos are two things you need to know before you can pick the place.

Re: just engaged
Congrats on your engagement! Take some time to enjoy being engaged because the planning will be here before you know it. Get a preliminary guest list and budget together and go from there.

Re: just engaged
You have time to book don't worry. Every reception hall will ask you how many ppl and what season so have that sorted out (estimates are fine!). Figure out how many ppl so that you know what price per person you can afford and that will help you narrow down your options Congrats and welcome!

Re: just engaged
Congrats!!!
I would suggest looking for the RH soon. I got engaged over Thanksgiving and went looking for a November 2011 date the weekend after and the dates we wanted for the places we wanted were taken. We moved it to January 2012, but when we were looking I met a lot of girls looking for spring 2012. I was surprised at how many places were booked and if you have you heart set on something, don't wait too long. Also, there are a lot of showcases coming up in January at the RH's so I'm sure they will book up after those too.
Good luck!!

Re: just engaged
Congrats on getting engaged!
The other girls are right, there are lots of things that go into booking the RH and its the first thing you should prob do, BUT
take your time enjoying being engaged first!!
Yes, we're 'almost' a year away now, but there are still lots of days open. Take your time having conversations over what you think the overall feel should be, and how much can you afford. A really classy wedding for a small group, or a giant party for everyone you know.
Near the city, near the beach, near a vineyard? Take your time talking that way you can narrow down some options and start visiting.
Good luck, can't wait to keep planning with you!

Re: just engaged
Thanks guys. Everyone keeps telling me to enjoy being engaged and don't jump into the planning right away.
I love the royalton and want to look there first but I definitely need to sit down with FH and figure out guest list and budget.

Re: just engaged
Congrats on the engagement - it took us 2 weeks to find a hall but thats just because i'm crazy lol sit down w/ FH and talk about budget as the girls said, number of people and what style you want - (by water or a garden - inside or outdoors) - once you have that just narrow places down - if you need help w/ the halls we are here and will help - good luck and congrats again!!!

Re: just engaged
congrats! We got engaged May 4th of this year & we booked our RH on July 14th. In the process of looking 2 years ahead there were some places that did not have our date. So I would say sooner then later if you are looking for a specific date. Otherwise, you have plenty of time

Re: just engaged
I would not take to long to decide. I got enaged on Dec 7, 2010 and I have started to look at Rhs with not planning a budget to get an idea of what is out there. Dates are limited to the months we are looking to get married.

Re: just engaged
Congrats!!!
I agree with the other girls start by putting together a guestlist then a budget. FH and I did this then we started the RH hunt. It took us about a month before we found the perfect place.

If you need any help just ask. Between all of us we have probably visited every single RH.

Re: just engaged
Congratulations!!!
The other girls are right- try to make a preliminary guest list and a budget as it will definitely guide you on where to look. Some places we wanted had a 175 or 200 minimum guarantee and that was too high for us, so we knew not to go and look in case we fell in love with the place.
I was engaged Nov 7 and we booked our RH the first week of December. Definitely enjoy being engaged, but I will be honest with you- start looking at RHs. Especially if you want spring/summer- there were some dates we wanted that were already booked for 2012 when we were looking. You have time for everything else, but in my opinion, it doesn't hurt to start looking at RHs when you can. :)
