I just got engaged last week, and we are planning to get married sometime in August 2014. We haven't started looking for venues yet, and all we know is that we want a small wedding, with 60-75 guests. We are also working with a tight budget, and I am clueless where to start! Any suggestions for wedding venues in Suffolk county would be greatly appreciated (we're open to exploring the Nassau County options too).

Congrats and welcome to the boards! I'd definitely check out the cottage at East Wind, and Smithtown Landing can accomodate smaller weddings as well. Good luck!

Congrats! I know the Thatched Cottage has a smaller room that holds up to 80 people I believe. My FHs family uses The TC for all of their business and personal events, and we've used that room before. It has a beautiful view!

This. I've been here multiple times for city events. The venue is gorgeous and the food is always delicious. FH and I are thinking about having our Jack and Jill shower here. I know you said you prefer Suffolk but I only looked in Nassau so I can only suggest places in Nassau. I would also check out Milleridge Inn and the Swan Club. Both can accommodate smaller weddings and the food is amazing at both places as well!
Def check out Sunset Harbour and also Chateau La Mer.

I have a 100 person minimum on a sunday at The Riviera in Massapequa.. on a Sunday evening. they also let us include our vendors meals to hit that number.. I wish I could get away with 60-75! :)

Wow! Thank you so much for all of your replies! This is going to be fun (and stressful.. but mostly fun, I hope). It is finally starting to sink in that I'm engaged, so excited! Congrats to everyone here!
Ok, are bridal expos worth going to? There is the North Shore Bridal expo at Ronkonkoma on April 30th, and I am considering attending it. There's a complimentary buffet and free admission, that should be enough to convince FH :)

I liked the bridal expos, FH and I went to one or two just to get us in the mood before we made any decision son vendors. I didn't find them to actually be to helpful but definitely a fun little reason to dress up and go out and celebrate your engagement!
also for that amount you could try a nice water front restaurant like The View in oakdale, I love The Oar House in Patchogue but it's very boat housey..
