Just found out that the priest that was supposed to marry us
was transferred to another parish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DARN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the last thing I want to worry about now!!!!!!!!!

Yep.. same thing happened to me.. and the best part is that the new preist is away for the next month and I wont even meet with him to discuss our ceremony...it sux

I wonder why do they do that? Why do they transfer these priests from parish to parish??????? He was new too! We really liked him...

Sometimes they move them around if there's 'drama' going on...
Sometimes they move around as a promotion, and acclamation of their service that is needed in another district....

He is a truly wonderful person and a Prof. at SJU...he married a few girls on this board when he was a priest at St. A's in Brooklyn...I dont think there was any 'drama' but jeesh why did have to move him...

We were married by someone else too (our priest had to leave early that day)...didn't even meet the priest before but it turned out ok....
don' t worry, you still have time to get to know the new one....

Same thing happened to us, and the old priest joked, that he hopes the new priest can speak english!!!!!!!!
Well as it turns out, the new priest has not lived or worked in the US until this year, I'm just hoping everyone will be able to understand him!
And we won't get to meet with him until the rehearsal. Totally stinks because I'm not sure if we can or cannot do the Hands Ceremony.

wanna hear a better one...i'm getting married in 16 days and my Church still doesnt know who's going to be marrying us!!!! the lady that handles weddings at my Church is an idiot (she's the same one who screwed up my start time...it was supposed to be 6pm and she had me down for 5pm so i had to re-do all of my invites!!!!!) she keeps saying that it depends on who's 'working' that week! can you believe this??? they want a $500 donation and this is the crap i'm getting!!!!!

The priest that I really wanted to marry us died the same day the Pope did. We still are upset, but we know that he will be there in spirit.

that completely makes no sense to me... i am sorry to hear that... i've never heard of such a thing. in my experience, the priest you meet with to set everything up is the one that marrys you.... when I called my parish she said what priest do you want and the nHE was the one we met with, set the date with and have been doing all the planning with..... plus wedding times are usually 'set' in a parish and you're plugged in at those times... the times don't usually change because they have to schedule arounf mass times and funeral masses, which times are set also... weird. GOOD LUCK! i hope everything works out... i would contact a priest directly and ask if he can do it, sit down with him beforre the wedding... that will ease your anxiety.

So sorry to hear that!!!! they often move diocesan priests around every 4 years or so to give all parishes a variety of priests whose skill sets can be beneficial to several parishes. i hope there is another priest that you like... i would call your parish and arrange to meet with another priest. good luck!

syl, i know that some people at my parish have requested a previous priest to come back just to do their ceremony..and a lot of times they do...ex..fh went to school at our parish..his family was close with a specific priest who transfered and we are requesting him to come do the ceremony...can you do the same???
