My family often gets my Grandma a GC to her hair salon ( sorry, beauty parlor ) too.
For her 80th the whole family chipped in & got her a large gift certificate to a furniture store she liked.

For her sisters 90th, Grandma got her a gift certificate to a deli type place that she likes that delivers , b/c she is 90 & decided she didn't want to cook anymore.

ETA- we also get my grandfather food gifts alot--- usually someone will make up a basket of health food from trader Joe's b/c he lieks it, but can't get there by himself & some of that stuff is expensive.

He won't accept big gifts from us & he doesn't really need a ot fo stuff. Sometimes we get him knew shirts. We also have gotten him a GC to Shop Rite. He LOVES going to the supermarket!

Re: Just got an invite in the mail...

For my mom's 60 birthday, we (my siblings and I) put together a picture frame that had 60 things we love about you. Then it had a column that said YOU and another one that said YOUR.

For instance:
You
Are always Loving
Make the best potato salad
Are the best mom EVER!......

Your
Kindness
Smile......

You'd have to come up with 80 things I guess, but I have to say that it really meant a lot to my mom. If you're interested and/or don't understand, I could always show you a pic of it when I get home. Everyone thought it was really nice!

Good Luck!

Was his granfather in any wars? Maybe you can get one of those nice cases and put an American flag in there(if he had one) They usually come with plaques. My friend gave this to her grandma and she loved it so much she started crying!

You could get a hold of some picutes of family and of her over the years. It might be nice to get put together a nice photo album that she could look at. And you could leave some room to put in pictures from the party too
