Hi and thanks, well a friend of mine told me about Flowerfields, it would be nice if we could do it by the water, but its not a must. This will probably be one of the hard parts huh?
Land's End is the same caterer as Flowerfields and it is by the water and about teh same price

You need to figure out your budget, the time of year you want to get married, do you want grounds or not, having the ceremony at the hall or not, etc.
I love the Manor East (I guess because I am getting married there ).

Congrats on your engagement and welcome!
there are many many wonderful places to be married on Long Island, the first step is to figure out what your price range is, what time of year and day of week (changes the prices A LOT) , generalized number of guests, and what your 'personal style ' is (meaning, elegant, quaint, on water/off water, rustic, etc) There are halls that fit all different sorts of 'styles'

Congratulations on your engagement. If you are having about 170 guests, miniumums at most places should not be a problem for you. Now you have to determine cost as that will narrow it down for you more. Then determine how far you are willing to travel from where you live or where the church is. Then tell us all this information and we can give you some more suggestions.

Flowerfields is amazing. I've been to 2 weddings there and I hope I get to go there again. It's beautiful & the food is amazing!
We are having our reception @ the North Ritz Club in Syosset, which is AMAZINGLY beautiful and it's brand new. They just renovated it! Check it out!
CONGRATS and Welcome! the magazing and website weddingsitesandservices is helpful.
I don't know if you've set your overall budget but price pp plus tax and gratuity will be a huge factor in picking halls- including what eveyone else said - unless you don't have a budget.
ps - if you don't I'm jealous

Congratulations. I believe the first thing is to, as some one stated, have an idea of how many people you would like to invite. You don't need a definitive number... just a round about number.
Secondly, securing a hall and church. Those seem to be one of the toughest task in planning.

Oh, I would just like to add... you should look into purchasing a Wedding Location magazine. I found it very helpful as I searched for a hall.

If you are looking for a place by the water, Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst is right on the bay, and the bigger room has one wall with floor to ceiling windows... Prices are great, food is wonderful and the people are fantastic to work with. Let me know if you want any info! :)

Villa Lombardis is AWESOME Located in Holbrook (the food is out of this world) Host 2 weddings at a time. The price is $$$
The Miller Place Inn is NICE Located in Miller Place (just renovated in 2003) Host 1 wedding at a time. The price is $$
The Watermill is GREAT Located in Smithtown. Price is $$$
