HOLY S$^%!!! That's a lawsuit! They are basically telling you to sell yourself in a physical way. (OK, maybe not a lawsuit, I hate lawsuits, I just mean it's nuts that they would tell you that).
I would be PI**ED!!
ETA: I would seriously quit, I'm not kidding. It may be the 'way of the world' but not my world. Not the world I want to live in.

wait, so you mean nobody was aware that a good looking waitress will make more in tips then a less attractive one, even if they are both equally good at their job? It may not be fair but they are just stating the obviouse, encuraging you to look your most attractive but not requiring it... No reason to file a lawsuit!

I agree with you that joking or not he probably shouldn't have written it but it wouldn't bother me. We can't start being overly sensitive to every rediculous statement that is made.

I could see if the job was in entertainment, like a card dealer, or a dancer, or a cocktail waitress, but I think he crossed a line for a regular waitressing job.

It does bother me too. It may be tryue, but it doesn't need to be said. I worked in Express in college, and in our introduction video they were expalinting dres and actaully said, ' dress as if you were goign on a date'
!!!!! I was offended, but need a job so I didn't say anything. i joked with my freind that my 'dates' were often to 7-11 & didn't requires stockigns & make up.
When I went back the next summer I had to watch the video again & noticed this wasn't part of it. I guess a lwayer reviewed it, or soemoen complained or soemthing.
I hated that palce though, so I still tell everyone about it. ther are better ways to saything, 'like please maintain a professional appearance'
Personally, I just look to see if waitresses where their hair up. WAY too many girls with long hair leave it down at this place near me.

This is not the first ridiculous statement he has made.
if this is an ongoing behavior with him then I would be annoyed. I originally thought it was a random remark and if this was the case then I would let it go. Has anyone spoken to him about everything?

He shrugs it off and laughs it off. The worst thin he did was about 2 years ago. A 16 year old who works there asked to use the computer in his office. He said yes only if she sits on his lap while she uses it... and she DID! I stayed out of that one. I t was inappropriate of him but she voluntarily did it... they were BOTH wrong.
