Just had my crown put in...

I never really ask for them, but I think I need hugs today...

I just walked in my house and started bawling. I am in so much pain. I think this hurt worse than the root canal! The dentist said this was the hardest thing he's done all week. He was trying to make the crown fit perfectly, but my gum swelled up so much from not having a tooth there for awhile that the pain was too intense. He had to give me about 7 shots of novocaine! Now it's wearing off and I am in so much pain, despite the Advil. My FH gave me a bag of frozen blueberries to put on my cheek and put in an Elvis DVD for me to watch to take my mind off it, but I am in so much pain! I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST!!!!

You are reminding me that I have to make my dentist appt, for some reason, I can never walk out of that office without having to go back for some kind of work, I dread the dentist!

I know... he kept asking me how the bite was, but I can never tell when I'm sitting there because I'm sore and numb. It's only later that day or the next day when I realize I have to go back, and then I feel like a PITA. He's such a nice guy, too... even gave me his cell phone number in case I needed to call him. So, I don't hate him... I just hate the dental profession. lol. I know something feels weird with the bite, and now I have to go through Mother's Day with something a little off. I hate that.

I understand your pain and I feel so bad for you right now. I have had my share of dental torture but keep strong and remember that in a few days you will be good as new. The doctor didn't give you a 'script for the pain? I would call his office and let him know that it is really bad and find out if FH can go up there and get some meds for you. They should have given you something for the day.

Awwww......I'm sorry you're in so much pain sweetie! I just had a root canal and crown done the beginning of the year and the crown was def painful......my gums got swollen too. I feel your pain!!! Feel better soon!!!!

the dentist didn't prescribe any painkillers for you?!?!? call the dentist back and let him know that you are in PAIN and ask him to prescribe something for you and have FH pick it up. my FH just had some SERIOUS dental work done last friday--they removed 3 of his teeth and had to get them out using a scalpel and left stitches in--and then put a temporary bridge where the 3 teeth had been in the front. before he left he asked the dentist about the pain and the dentist prescribed a dozen Vicodin for him.

trust me---let the doctor know that you are not doing well...they can help!!!

I had a root canal and crown put in last month and I had the same thing happen to me. I used 1/2 of a vicodan that they perscribed for me from the root canal after they put the crown in because of the pain.

aww... thank you everyone. I just read all this. I had to go BACK to the dentist for him to file down a high spot that was REALLY hurting, which I only discovered once the novocaine wore off. Thank GOD I discovered that before they went home for the day, so they waited for me and took me right away. The dentist DID say that if the swellng doesn't go down, I may need GUM surgery, so I'm praying the swelling goes down. The majority of the pain has subsided, thank God... and I stopped crying. lol

I never get the luck of dentists prescribing me anything. They all say 'Advil'. And then it's not even the REAL Advil.. it's the generic stuff. At least at home, I have the better liqui gels!

(by the way... to add insult to injury... the bag of frozen blueberries that my FH gave me to put on my cheek (which, 20/20 hindsight wasn't the best frozen food to pick) started leaking on my white sweatshirt (which I just bought last week and was going to embroider with cutesy wedding stuff). .

Sorry Sarah!!!! Dental pain is no fun!! Your dentist should have given you pain killers and maybe antibiotics in case of infection!! I think you should call him and tell him that you need something stronger until the swelling goes down!! I just had my 4 wisdom teeth out and the oral surgeon gave me pain meds and penicillin. The pain meds hlep you relax and get some sleep!! I hope you feel better soon!!!!!
