Just had to share...my first concert was a HUGE hit!
Well, this is my first year teaching elementary music...and I was pretty freaked out about the undertaking of a huge concert with three grade levels (3-5) at once in a very small auditorium. I had so many wonderful supportive people help me along the way...but I was certainly overwhelmed. I had doubted the songs I chose...worried the parents would complain...etc etc....
Well...my first concert was last Thursday and I STILL can't get over the reaction! I haven't heard one bad word! Parents have been raving that it was the best one they'd seen...they were so happy to see all the energy and enthusiasm from the kids. In years past, their teacher went with the predictable. The kids were making up their own movements to the songs and just having a great time...to me, the fact that people noticed all the fun the kids had is my biggest compliment. That was what I was going for. And the parents/teachers all said because I get up and have a lot of energy, the kids feed off of that. One parents said I'm breathing new life into the program!!
Honestly, I'm still blown away!!! And then when they thanked/congratulated me and the instrumental teacher...when they called out my name...holy moley the SCREAMS! It was hysterical!
I love my kids...and I think they know that...so that probably helps! It's just such a relief...my district values music VERY highly..it's very competitive. So I knew I had high expectations to live up to...
And now I have one more concert to go! The K-2...we'll see! I can't see the same reaction from it because since they're so young, it's harder to do all that fun creative stuff...so I'll have to come down from this high soon.
Just had to share! Sorry it was so long...but you can tell I'm excited!
It was so worth the stress!!!
