Just had to vent...

Just had to vent...

So my maid of honor moved to Amsterdam this month to be a nanny. She won't be back until June and the only way I can talk to her is through email. There's something about emails that allow people to say things that they wouldn't say to your face.

I had told her a few days ago that I was having some problems with FH and I just needed her advice. I had finally figured out what the problem was and I just wanted to see how I should go about solving it. She writes back and tells me that if she was me, she wouldn't marry FH because we're too young and it's only our first relationship. She knows that I've been hearing this constantly since we got engaged and that it really upsets me. I don't see why meeting him at thirty after I've had 17 relationships would make it any better other than that I would have had more experience. It just really hurt to hear it from her since not only does she know that I'm tired of hearing it but she never said anything about it until now. It was always 'don't listen to anyone else' and now I find out she agrees with them.

No one gets along 100% of the time, but because everyone has these assumptions about my relationship, I don't really talk to anyone because I don't want to hear 'well maybe if you guys would have waited...' because I don't think it has anything to do with waiting. We're just two people who love each other enough to work through anything that comes our way but we're gonna hit bumps along the way. I just feel like no one will believe it will last until we've been married 50 years, or even if it does end after 50 years that they'll still blame it on us having been too young.

Sorry this was so long. I'm just really hurt

ugh - you know what - that really makes me mad. . .FH and I started dating when we were 15 - and we have been together almost 9 years -

I hate when people say that since we were each other's first and onlys we dont know if its 'right' - um ok i am not blind and I know what GARBAGE is out there in the dating world and I know EXACTLY how blessed we are

back in the day EVERYONE was each others first and only relationship - everyone got married at 17 or 18 - and guess what there was a LOT less divorce then . . .

anyway as for your friend - i guess give her some time. . .but if she continues this way - you have to think of what kind of people you want to surround yourself with on your wedding day and EVERY day - your friends should support you and understand you. . . if you are not getting this from her then you should try to surround yourself with more supportive people . .. because thats what gets you through stress!

Good point! We're smart enough to know that we have a good thing! I actually used to let people influence me and I'd question if I should be with my FH... I was 16 at the time. I'm so glad I stuck through it though! There really is no need for experience!

I don't understand why your friend would say that to you! Don't be down about it though. Just be proud of yourself for the relationship that you and your FH have maintained for all of this time! Lots of people don't have that! Everyone disagrees and fights at times! That's a part of the growing process....getting to know each other better and becoming 'one'.

Anyway, good luck!
