Just have a DJ or a DJ and MC?

Just have a DJ or a DJ and MC?

Hello!

So many of the packages that I have been looking at with music have some differences with one person being both a DJ and MC or having two separate people with their individual roles (one as MC one as DJ) How have you decided what to do? What have your experiences been? Thanks!

I hired both because at any party or wedding, I feel like both roles bounce off one another. That's just my opinion. The company I hired didn't give me prices for either one or the other. The prices were based on the type of set up and equipment I wanted. Happy planning!

I'm definitely an advocate of both. I'd rather have one guy worrying about the music being played at the right times and one guy doing announcements, making sure people are ready for speeches, first dance, parent dances, cake cutting, etc.

I agree! I have both. I haven't heard of hiring one person for both roles.

We went with just a DJ. Personally, i think MCs get a little obnoxious telling people what to do 'GET UP AND DANCE' 'EVERYONE CLAP' and it's just sooo unnecessary. We had an awesome crowd of guests that didn't need coaching on how to have fun. I vote save yourself some extra cash and go with just one person. The dj will still make sure to do whatever announcements or 'coaching' your crowd may need without being so in your face.

I thought about this, having a one man DJ/MC and there are a few DJ companies that do it. We met with Tommy Tunes and they offer a 1 man dj/MC with assistant package. So basically the assistant helps with whatever the main guy needs: corralling people, water, etc. lol. Ultimately I think we have decided to go with a DJ and MC just to make everything easier for announcements and so forth. Our reception/dinner room is seperate from the dance floor so I think having an MC will be the best idea for us to keep people up and dancing and aware of what's happening.

We have both, I'm not sure how necessary it is, but when I was looking into it I generally read if you're having a decent amount of guests it's better to have both, we're expecting 180-200.

We are only doing a DJ. I always find MC's to be a bit obnoxious. People have been to weddings before, if they want to dance, they'll dance.

My FFIL used to be in a wedding band and he always hated dealing with MC's at weddings lol. He said all you need is some good music and good food and it's a good time.

Can anyone FM me their DJ quotes? I am not looking for anyone in particular, just trying to get an 'average' for a 4 hour DJ/MC. Thanks!
