I just attended the funeral of a friend's husband. He died on February 9, his birthday
I did not know this until I saw it in the program but they met when he was 7 years old!!! They were married in 1956 and would have celebrated their 50th year of marriage All three of their kids were in attendance along with 9 grandchildren and friends/family from all over the country who loved him.
I know that we all criticize, complain and vent on these chat boards about various wedding planning issues, but please do not lose sight of the big picture. The wedding is just the beginning of what will be a lifelong journey.
After the wedding is all said and done and the flowers have long since died, the guests will remember how much love they felt from bride and groom

Thank you for writing that, it's so true. We sometimes lose sight of what a wedding is...it's more then just a party.

i'm sorry for your frends loss... and thank you for this post. peopel definitely loose touch with what is really important about a wedding. it shouldn't be about the huge centerpeices and the chocolate fountain, and putting on a big show for friends and family... it should just be about 2 people who are in love, and have a nice day to celebrate that with family and friends. we didn't have an 'extravagent' wedding, and i'm sure some of our guests thought we 'cheaped out' on certain things.... but everyone had a fun time, people were up dancing the whole time... and DH and i are married and will spend our lives together, which is the main point of the whole thing...

That was beautiful, thank you for the post. Life is so precious and can be taken in an instant.. it is always important to remember what is important in the scheme of everything - and flowers, cakes, dresses, and reception halls are just little touches.

We have had 4 funerals since 12/27/05 and it's just upsetting and enlightening all at once. I could not even go back to work It really does put things into perspective
