just switched this weekend to direct tv from IO

and I really like it!! same music channels, tons more pay per views and a new scrapping show craig found for me on DYI network

only drawback is no more HBO On demand that I will miss
other than that I like it better! for same price as IO, we get cinemax, HBO, showtime, starz, TMC etc.....

only had HBO w/ the IO package for the same money and starz --- had no cinemax and movie channels

thats sooo funny that you posted this bc joe just said to me how much he hates cablevision and wants direct tv! (we used to have time warner in queens and they were great!) but we have our cable modem hooked up thru cablevision... i guess we could always hook it up thru our phone compnay..

Love my Directtv but I soon will be giving it up for IO. Cablevision wants to give it to me $30 cheaper than Directtv (including all channels) just so I become there customer. I figured I save some money for one year than go back to Directtv. I will miss it.

wow - io is cheaper incl. all channels?? i'd think it would be the other way around. have to look into it. but will miss my traffic / weather channel! thats the best!

depends on the package we are only paying like 15.00 more a month then we did w/ IO but have more premium channels, showtime, movie channels, etc.......

plus we are getting something for 3-4 months free but I forgot what! LOL for signing up
I think craig wanted to get rid of IO to see all the football games

Tammy - You can get TIVO with DirectTV that is like OnDemand except with all the channels. I havent broke down to get it yet since we have had Direct TV for years...but I think I will be getting it soon.

Stef- w/ TIVO cant you only tape what is actually on that day? for example yesterdays episode of sopranos was I think 28? But with IO they had up to episode 35! does TIVO do that?

With TIVO you can set it up so that it records all of your favorite shows no matter when they are on. So if I like Sex and the City, the recorder will record every episode of Sex and the City as it airs (not just the new one but also the reruns they air from old seasons). So you can keep all of those episodes and watch them when you want. So if you had it for the past few years, you could have all the SATC episodes stored for you to watch. But if you were to buy TIVO today, you would have to set it up to start recording based on your preferences - so you wouldnt have anything on day one.

A big thing for me (when I finally get it) will be being able to watch shows that I miss when Im at work. Like DIY and HGTV networks have some great shows I never get to see - but if I have TIVO, I can watch then whenever.

Also ive heard that TIVO has a 'intelligence' and will tape shows you dont even ask for based on your preference. So if you have it set up to tape a certain show and there is another show like it - it will tape it for you so you can check it out.

Oh and you can skip thru commercials so thats a nice thing too.

I dont have TIVO yet so Im not sure how this all works, but thats what Ive heard. Everyone who has it tells me its great.

thanks Stef
Craig mentioned TIVO but said its too much money
is it a lot of money to get TIVO and a top package? maybe
maybe down the road we can get it

Re: just switched this weekend to direct tv from IO

I have IO and wanted to switch to Direct. I HATE CABLEVISION, but i have to admit i do like IO I like the on demand and i like the ability to pause movies ect.. and my online is cheaper... And im Glad that i dont have the NFL ticket, cause there is no sport watching in my house.. not on the big tv anyway.. we have a deal, he can watch any jet game at the house and invite who ever over to see it and i will cook and serve and clean up and no wives girlfriends or children allowed (cause i like to do my own thing, like read or laundry or whatever) and if he wants to watch other games he can go out, or if nothings on i will take pity on him!!and he can watch it at home...
