Just tell me I won't regret it!! PLEASE (long sorry)

Just tell me I won't regret it!! PLEASE (long sorry)

We have (I think) decided that since we are not leaving on a honeymoon until 4 days after our sat. night wedding we will just go back to my fh's house to sleep that night. I know in previous posts I was stressing whether we should stay in a hotel that night or not. At this point even 300 dollars for a wedding night hotel room is not going to make a difference since we are way over budget anyway!!! But our reception will be over at 1 and by the time we actually leave the reception hall it will be after 2 pm. My fh will do whatever I want and says it is fine if we go back to our home or stay out. If we stay out we have to go home anyway around 11 am on Sunday morning since we would put our dog at the vet overnight and the vet only allows pick up on sunday at 11:00 and we don't want to leave her for more than a day since she will be there for over 11 days for our honeymoon. I just don't want to regret years from now saying that I did not have the first night at a hotel. I don't think it is a big deal but I am not sure how I will feel about it at the time. What are you feelings??? Thanks again!!

I think you should spend the $300 and stay in a hotel. Even if you have to go home the next afternoon, this will be a little respite from 'real life' creeping in so soon afterward. You will be able to have champagne in your room and enjoy a few more hours while reliving the wonderful day you just had with your new husband. Its worth it!

Don't think of it as night having your first night in a hotel, but having your first night together in the house that you will share together for many years to come. I think that is more meaningful than some random hotel room if you are just staying at a hotel for the sake of not staying at home. Make it something special at your house. Set up a champagne bucket, wake up to mimosa's and strawberries...make it special and then you will always have a special memory of the first home you shared together.

FH & I have decided that instead of going to a hotel or home - we are just gonna continue the party - a few close friends and us celebrating the night away. Since our wedding is on a Sunday night - those that are really close to us aren't going to be going to work the next day anyway..... So why should the party end?!!

We aren't going to miss out on anything - hell... why should we pay $300 to do things that we can do at home? LoL

My brother and his wife went home. they wanted to spend their first night as husband and wife in their apartment. He is happy with his decision.

Honestly, if we had an apartment on LI at the time, we would have gone home to it also, and saved the money for our honeymoon or something.
It's not important to be in a hotel on your wedding night (IMO)...it's important that you are together and that's all that matters.

Here's something you could do....have a friend or relative help you clean/straighten the apartment before the wedding, and make sure that it stays that way the entire day of the wedding (ie, don't get ready there...).

Then, put a trusted friend or neighbor/relative in charge of 'setting it up' for your arrival home after the reception....(you can purchas all of these things a day or two ahead of time)...have them put a bottle of champagne on ice and have it waiting with two crystal flutes, pick up a tray of cookies or chocolate covered strawberries, purchase new PJs for hubby and a new nightie for yourself, have candles and rose petals all over the bedroom and bath, buy bagels and have breakfast in bed the next day...basically set up your apartment with all the things you think you'd have in a hotel room.

The one upshot of not staying in a hotel - you don't have to get up early to make sure you meet the 11AM checkout time!!!

I won a night at the Hilton otherwise I would have went home to our apartment.
Its whatever is better for you. As long as you are together as husband & wife, is all that matters!

Thanks for the great advice. Looks like I will be ok about going home. Claud, that is a really good idea, it adds several things to my 'to do' list but hey, that list never ends anyway, what is a few more things???

There were two reasons we stayed at a hotel on our wedding night:
#1) We live an hour away from the reception site and didn't think we'd be up for driving that far after such a long day.
#2) We wanted somewhere to take pictures before the ceremony.
If we lived a bit closer to the reception hall I think we probably would have just gone home. The other thing is that our hotel only cost us $139 for the night. We stayed at the Harrison House in Glen Cove. Where are you getting married? I'd definitely recommend the HH if your reception is anywhere around there.

It is perfectly ok to go back to your apartment.

Just deocorate it with candles champagne strawberries, all that romantic stuff.

there is no rule that says you have to stay in a hotel.

We went home after the reception. I didn't see the point in going to a hotel when we live 15 minutes away. My husband bought me 2 bouquets of flowers to decorate the house. He also had a dozen red roses sent to me at my mom's house the morning of the wedding. It can be as special as you want it to be!

We were having the same problem (before booking recpetion hall) It turns out John Anthonys is giving us the wedding night at the Garden City Hotel...so luckily our problem was solved easily. Otherwise we would have gone to our new home.

I personally will go back home and spend the night at home. The night of my wedding we stood at a hotel and had to wake up a 6am to get to the airport. I regret staying at the hotel instead of going to home to spend it with my hubby.

We have a similar situation. Our cruise doesn't leave till a week after the wedding and since our wedding is on a Friday, we are spending the weekend at a hotel-not sure yet which one, then working Monday-Thursday and leaving for Hawaii on Friday morning. For our sake, we just want to alone. We are moving into FH's family basement and I don't feel comfortable going there so soon after the wedding.

Had we had our own home or place, I would stay there just to spare the cost of the hotel room.

We didn't want to spend that much on a hotel either, especially since we knew we weren't going to check in until very late. We just stayed at the red roof in for $99 with the rest of our guests. We had some of his friends staying at our house bc they are from canada and couldn't come if they had to pay for the hotel, which was fine with us. If they weren't there though, I definitely would have opted to come home and stay here. I would have wanted though, to have someone do something special with the room at some point, like put a bunch of candles around for us to light when we got home, or something like that to make it special. I was actually secretely hoping that one of my friends staying in the hotel with us would have arranged that for our room that night!

I think Claud's idea is wonderful. Makes the night a little more personal and special in my opinion : ).

Honestly Scott and I wished we had just gone home after the wedding instead of staying in the hotel that night. We were both tired and wanted to sleep in our own bed before heading out for 2 weeks of hotels. IMO- go to your home and enjoy your time there. There is no place better than home for me.

If there was no one at our home, we would have gone home, I wish we had, had that option. We would not have had to rush and pack for the HM. We left for our HM on Monday, but all day Sunday was spent with out of town/out of country guest. We were so tired. I say if you will be going home to a empty home it is ok to do so. We had to check out of the hotel and wait for someone to come and get us, it was crazy, everyone wanting to see us, wanting to relive the day. In the end it is up to you and your FI

Happy planning

we went to our apartment granted our wedding ended at 1.00 and our limo picked us up at 4.00 but we did not regret anything- it doesnt matter where you spend your first night together - as lonng as you are together- my opinion.

I agree w/ the notion that as long as you're together, nothing else should matter. Making your home into a personal paradise/hotel like seems perfect! You can set a CD for some nice mood music, get the champagne ready, and enjoy your night together as husband and wife. Breakfast in bed, whenever you're ready for it not by a certain deadline seems perfect.
