Just wondering..........

If you see someone with a child who is 4 and still wearing diapers at night, do you think the parents aren't taking the time to train the child properly?

I think that toilet training is one of those things that you cant force a child to do. You can teach and show them what to do but you can't make them take to it. In fact I have heard over and over how detrimental it is to force it upon them. As for wearing the diapers at night, lots of kids have accidents and maybe this child is one of them. If my child still needed a diaper at bedtime, I'd rather do that than have my child sleeping in urine soaked pajamas & bedding.

Sometimes it's a developmental thing. Some children's bladders take longer to develop, and they need some extra 'help' overnight just in case. I hear's it's especially true of boys.

I guess every child is different.

I think it all depends. Is this just a night time thing? If it is that the child will NOT use the potty at all, then I would be speaking to the doctor (if it were me) but a nighttime thing is very understandable. Also, my nephew has autism and is not potty trained yet. They have tried but he goes back and forth with it. His situation is developmental, not physcial but you never know what a parent is dealing with so I try not to judge.
