JVC Home Theatre System

We recently bought a home theatre system and hooked it up perfectly, except there is 1 problem: How does the surround sound work with just the television, i.e., like when your just watching tv. It works great with a dvd, etc., but cant get it to work with tv. Any body have any suggestions? Anything will be much appreciated! Thank you in advance!

For us we have to have the receiver on for surround sound to work.

We have our TV and everything else hooked up together. The TV is hooked up the the receiver as well as the CD player, the DVD player and a tape deck. The receiver is what you play your CD player from and the tape deck and anything else that's audio. Please let me know if you want more of an explanation.

So even your cable is hooked up to the surround sound system?

No, the cable is direct into the TV. The there is a cable that is hooked up from the receiver to the TV.

your show has to be broadcast in dolby sourrand sound (or whatever fortmat they do it in)... then you need to sent your receiver to do the same (depending on your wiring, it 'should') do it automatcally.

all receiver (should) have an override button that you can press to force sourrand sound from all your speakers.

if you have 1 of the hd boxes from cablevision, try to hook it up with an optical cable or a coaxlil (sp) cable)

check your manual if you have one and if you cable box outputs that type of signal
