Kauai vs Big island

Planning our honeymoon to Hawaii. We are thinking 6 days in Maui and 4 on another island. Seems like everyone does Kauai... What's the difference between Kauai and the Big Island? Where are you all staying and one which island. Thinking either 4 Seasons or Grand Wailea in Maui. then Hyatt in Kauai or Kona Village on the Big Island. If anyone has info on any of these..I would appreciate the help? Thanks.

Kauai vs Big island

From what I've read, I think the biggest difference is physical. The big island has active volcanos, which is uniquely interesting... but from what I've heard a lot of the land is lava that has hardened, so no plants and such... (Around the hotels they've imported lots of plants though!). Kauai is much more of a tropical island, lush and rain-foresty I'd say... I think that the choice depends on whether or not you are nature hikers (Go to Big Island to see volcanoes) or lay around the poolers (see waterfalls in Kauai).

We're going to the Grand Wailea!!!

We chose to stay the entire time at the Grand Wailea. We called and requested a video of it (said it was for a conference that my company wanted to hold... okay, so I lied) and it looks absolutely amazing. Plus it has those awesome pools and all those restuarants. It's on the same beach as the Four Seasons too (FYI the beach was rated the #1 beach in America a few years ago). I don't know if this is a factor but if you didn't know, the Grand Wailea is actually alittle bit more expensive than the Four Seasons. It just seemed like the Grand Wailea offered so much more to do and was so posh (did you see their spa?) They have also won so many awards. If you are however looking for more solitude than I would go for the Four Seasons. We choose to stay the entire time (2 weeks) there as I am way too lazy to pack up and move. BEsides, there are soooo many things to do just in Maui (even under water excursions where you where a helmet and walk, talk and breathe underwater looking at the fish! There is also a submarine you can go on!). If we want to see the other islands we can get an island hopping pass for around $150 which is an airplane which lets you go back and forth as much as you want and then you can still go back to your hotel in Maui at night. So excited!!!!Go luck! PS - did you go to www.grandwailea.com?

Hey angie3 ...looks like we have alot in common..you are also a fellow-NRC bride! Price isn't our biggest concern but actually we got quoted a lower price for the Grand Wailea! I do want to do 2 islands though...but thanks for telling us about the island hopper thing it still may be an option...I still need to find more info on the islands to decide. Our agent wasn't too good...we have to find a better one...who did you use?

Actually i am a FOx Hollow bride. I believe their is another bride called just 'Angie' and she may be a NRC bride. We went through my company''s travel agent Myriad Travel but what they do is go through Go Go Tours. Most travel agencies actually book through tour operators... they prebook large slots of rooms so you get a better price with them. I wonder why you got qouted cheaper for GWailea. Even when I called and asked both of them directly their prices the Four Seasons was like $40 less per room. I wonder if it has to do with the time of year. Our wedding is October 27th of this year... when is yours? Try to get the video... it''s awesome. I know it is not nice telling fibs and all but I don''t feel to bad about it as we choose to go there anyway. Tell them your company is interested in a having their conference their. The video shows such much more and you get to see what they mean by 'water elevator' in their pools which looks really cool!!!!

thanks...looks like we will be in Maui at the same time...my wedding is October 26th! When are you leaving...Monday? Again, not sure how great or how much I trust the travel agent we went to (we just went to him for research purposes) but anyway the price for the 4 Seasons was about $100 more than the Grand Wailea.

Oh my god I can't believe we are going to be there at the same time!!! Basically for 10 nights we are paying 4,240 for a garden room this includes jeep rental the entire time and breakfast every morning. Also all the taxes are already included. We don't want to get the ocean room as we are hoping to get an upgrade when we are there. Besides, we don't plan on being in the room that much during the day. We are flying out Monday the 28th at 8AM on Delta. We lucked out big time by having enough points for both my FH and I to fly roundtrip First Class for free!!! How cool!! If we did the same package at the Four Seasons wanted to charge us $3,900 for basically the same thing.

It really doesn't make a difference cuz we already booked our trip. If you get a cheaper price that's great! Let me know what you decide. Both resorts look amazing!!! Also, if you have the travel channel, they feature Hawaii stuff a lot and some of it is really informative.

I only got the breakfast through the travel agent who went through the tour operator. I think my FH once booked a trip for us and called GoGo Tours himself so you may be able to go through them directly. It may also be because since my travel agent knows me on a personal note she did not charge me anything for their services.
