We're trying to decide between Kaua'i and Kona for the first island during our Hawaii honeymoon. There's about a 900 dollar difference between the two (Kona being less expensive than Kaua'i). I'd love to hear reports for both. I'm worried that Kona isn't 'pretty' and won't feel like Hawaii. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Went to both on our HM along with Molokai in the middle - LOVED Kauai most of all - it's SO BEAUTIFUL!!! Unless you're really in to seeing the volcanoes, I would go to Kauai!
We didn't go to Kona, but we absolutely LOVED Kauai! It is so beautiful!
We went to both places. We didn't stay exactly in the Kona area, since the Big Island really is so big. Kona is definitely not anywhere near as lush and green as Kauai is. You will see a lot of black lava rock. The beaches are very good however, better than in Kauai. Kauai is just absolutely gorgeous. I had a terrific time on both islands. You can't go wrong with either.
