DH buys irish goods and I noticed on the back of some the nutritional value box says
k/cal - 1500 energy - 100
and I don't know if k/cal is the same as calories or if energy are the same as calories. I asked DH but he has no idea either.
Does anyone know how I can figure out the calories and fat so I can calculate points? I'm getting a points calculator sent to me from WW in Ireland but it won't come until next week. I guess I could estimate but I'd rather do the conversion if I can.
TIA.

Re: k/cal to calorie conversion
If I'm not mistaken (which I very well could be), k/cal is actually a more accurate title for what we refer to as calories in the US.
I seem to recall from 8th grade science class (where we did a unit on this) that a true calorie is the amount of energy it takes to heat one mL of water 1 degree celsius. However, in the US we measure food by Calories (the capital C is the distinction) which is actually 1000 calories. You may remember your metric system uses latin prefixes? K/cal is short for Kilocalorie - or 1000 calories.
I have NO CLUE what the 'energy' is.
Now that I've given that rediculous lesson, I'll say that k/cal=US calories, and there's nothing to convert.

Re: k/cal to calorie conversion
Well I'm looking at this stuff called YR (Yorkshire relish) sauce, which is a thick, tangy sauce you would use for meat as you would A-1 sauce.
It says for 100g it has 101 k/cal.
So based on what you said it probably means it's 101 calories. But I doubt 100g is a proper serving, I have to figure out grams to tablespoon which I can do on google.
