Keep your fingers crossed for me please

Keep your fingers crossed for me please

I finally got the okay from my doctor to go back to work!!! For those who don't know, I developed a severe blood clot in my leg right after Christmas. I was in the hospital for 17 days and have been out of work for the last 4 months.

At the time this happened I had just started a new job (I was only there for 4 weeks). They were really understanding in the beginning, sent me get well cards, fruit baskets, flowers etc. and told me not to worry about my job, but just to get better. As time dragged on they were not quite so happy about my continued disability (me neither ), but at no point did they tell me that my job would not be waiting for me to come back to.

I called today to let them know that my doctor okayed me to return on May 5th. Now, after all this time they are not sure they will let me come back. My boss was not available so I spoke to her Admin Asst. She said that they will have to see and get back to me. WHAT????? Here I was pushing to get back as soon as I was physically able and now they have to see? Blahhhh. I have been waiting all day to hear something, but of course they are torturing me and making me wait .

So please ladies keep your fingers crossed for me that it will be good news. I have no desire to job hunt right now. Thanks

fingers crossed

(is that legal? if you're on disability, don't they have to take you back or give you a comparable position?)

I think disability has guaranteed work only up to 3 months, and looks like wendy has been out more than that.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Keep your fingers crossed for me please

Thanks all for the good wishes and positive thoughts. For those that asked about the legality, it is legal for them not to take me back at this point. Because I had only been there for 1 month I was not eligible to be covered under FMLA. Even at that FMLA only guarantees you a position back (either yours or one similar) if you return within 3 months.

I do think though that they should have notified me if they were not planning on holding my position for me. I have been getting all of the company magazines and internal stuff that they usually hand out in the office mailed to my house and I took that as a positive sign.

I will think positively and hope for a good phone call tomorrow!
