Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
I changed my name.
My friends were actually surprised how quickly (my name was changed at work before I got back from my HM)
Now on to changing it elsewhere.

I'm taking his, but he says he would rather take mine, b/c he doesn't have great relationship with his family.

I'm taking her name. She wasn't going to change her name and I think its important that we have a family name in common for when we have kids.

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
Just another thought, one of FH's friends combined last names when they got married. So now they both have new last names that are a combination of their old last names.

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
I originally thought of hyphenating, but my FH was very hurt by that. So, I am going to legally change my name to his. His is much shorter and easier to pronounce! I may publish my research under a hyphenated name though, I did all the work as me and my family helped me get to this point, so I would like to get credit for my work under my maiden name!

I don't have a middle name so my maiden name will be my middle name and I'm taking his last name. no hyphen.
Same here
I have a middle name but I am adding my maiden name as a second middle name with NO hyphen between it and my new surname. I can use any or all of the names as I see fit.
Goldi, please stop doing everything the exact why I do. Kidding That's what I did.
This is what I want to do...I htought it maybe silly to have so many names, but if you girls can doit, so can I!!

I'm keeping my name, I'm proud of my family name. Also I think IMHO that its not fair that the woman is expect to change her name.
Go girl! Same here. I respect anyone's right to do as they please, but the tradition does not make sense to me personally. Being a family and being in love have no real bearing on whether or not I change or keep my last name. I am fine with the kids taking his last name.

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
he hyphenated his because he wanted to take mine but he has children from a previous marriage. he's mostly known as mine but when it comes to his children he's hyphenated.

I still haven't decided. I have changed my name once already for personal reasons. He would prefer if I take his name, but he would be fine if I kept mine. Decisions, decisions.

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
I have a really hard to pronounce last name, and I always figured my husband's name wouls be easier. When I got engaged, people started asking me what my 'new' name was going to be and everyone was like, 'How the heck to you spell that?!?!' I guess I'm not getting a name that's more pronouncable, but at least it's closer to the beginning of the alphabet!
Of course, I know I'll probably be in tears at the Social Security office when I actually go to change it.

Re: Keeping your name *POLL*
I am hyphenating because my father's last name will live on with me and my children because he is the only one in his family to get married and he had me and my sister..so I just thought it would be nice to keep

This is what I did and so far it's really working out well.
