Kell Antibody

Kell Antibody

I'm 11 weeks pregnant with our second child and I've just been informed by my ob/gyn that my blood test shows I have the K-antibody. They have to do more tests on me as well as the baby I'm carrying. If the baby has the K-antigen, it's at risk of being 'attacked' by my antibodies. Is anyone familiar with this problem? This is the first I've ever heard of such a thing and I'm really feeling lost and scared.

First,

I do not know anything about this anti-body, but why don't you do a Google search. It always helps me when I have a question.

Re: Kell Antibody

the sounds similar to being Rh Neg which I am and have to get 2 injections for this pregnancy to avoid the baby being 'Attacked'. But I haven't heard the term K Antibody so maybe it is different.

Good Luck and Congrats on your pregnancy

I don't know much about anti-K, but, I *believe* that the baby's red blood cells have difficulty supplying oxygen to his/her organs. I know that an interuterine transfusion can be performed on your baby (IF necessary). I'm sure one of our resident doctors will have more information on this.

I hope you get more answers very soon. I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. Hugs to you, your DH and little Gabriel!

Thanks to everyone that responded. I'll let you know once the blood results come in on Monday.
