Ketubah Question

Do you have to have a ketubah for the wedding to be considered binding in Judiaism? I'm just wondering if we need to do it or not? We are both very reform.

Any thoughts?

In the eyes of Judisiam, you need to have a ketubah for it to be a binding marriage. I would talk to your rabbi/officient who is marrying you.

Definately speak to your Rabbi. I met with mine last night and one of the items we discussed was the ketubah. She explained that it is only binding in Orthodox ceremonies with traditional language. If it is not an Orthodox ceremony, she explained that the ketubah is a symbol of your committment and a piece of art. The only thing that is binding is the marraige license.

HTH!!

If you're being married by a Rabbi, he can just provide a simple Ketubah for you - you don't have to spend money on a fancy one.

Re: Ketubah Question

in order to have a jewish wedding, there must be a ketubah.
there are varying texts for you to choose from depending on what branch of judaism you belong to.
whether u are reform, conservative, orthodox, reconstructionist, secular-humanist, etc.... all need a ketubah.

the text is not legally binding (not anymore....)

I am a Cantor in the Reform movement. Please feel free to FM me if you have questions.

Check with art ketubah and find out how long it takes to ship. You obviously want to make sure you get it in enough time.
