i just joined a kickboxing class - before I joined I had lost 5 pounds in a month by just walking/running a bit a few times a week. However, after the 5 pounds I wasn't losing anymore. I went to kickboxing on saturday, monday, tuesday and wednesday -- when i weighed myself today i was 2 pounds heavier.
I'm wondering - did anyone else try kickboxing? Has it worked for you? Is this weight gain normal? Some of my girl friends say it's b/c muscle is heavier than fat. But still -- it's bothering me to see those two extra pounds on the scale.

Re: kickboxing
I recently started a kickboxing class at my gym, but it's a combo of cardio and strength training. We wear the gloves and kick and bunch the instructors (who have padding). You're supposed to do it twice a week, but I can afford once a week so I'm not sure yet how well it will work for weight loss. But all of my muscles ache afterwards!!!

Kickboxing is a great work out and it will help you tone up. You might not lose 10-15 pounds, but you will lose inches and go down a size or two. It takes a little longer but the results are worth it. It is true, muscle weighs more than fat, so don't get discouraged by the numbers. Good luck.

Re: kickboxing
I did kickboxing 3 times a week and it transformed by body like I have never seen. Honestly, the weight on the scale is not as important as the benefits for your body. You will MOST DEFINITELY lose inches and gain muscle tone. For me it was the absolute best workout I could have ever done - I went down from a 10-12 to a 6....However, I never weighed myself you can jsut see the difference in your body - you become tight all over.

Re: kickboxing
Yes, the weight gain is normal. From what I was told, you are gaining muscle which weighs a lot, but the muscle is eating away the fat and toning you. So you may not go down tremendously in #, but in inches you will.

Re: kickboxing
thanks for the support ladies -- i'll keep up the kickboxing. I've also been running on the days I don't kickbox so hopefully that will have an impact too!

Re: kickboxing
Don't weigh yourself just take a tape measure with inches and measure body parts you will get so much more gratification out of this....

Re: kickboxing
I once weighed myself 5 times in a day just to track the weight fluctuations - in 1 day I fluctuated 3 pounds - so don't sweat it on the scale - sweat it in thos fabulous classes!!!

Re: kickboxing
I fluctuate up to 5 lbs from one day to the next...it gets so frustrating if you watch the scale. Go by how your clothes fit.
