Kids at the reception

Kids at the reception

Hi ladies,
Just need some feedback. My FH and I are not having children at our reception since it's a night wedding, an adult party, etc. and simply b/c we just don't want children. However, we have a few situations that popped up that caused us to have some children at our reception.

1) My cousin had to bring her 3 children (ages 5, 10, and 13) b/c she lives with my grandparents who don't drive. So if she can't come and drive them, they won't come. So to avoid drama and what not, we said fine, you can bring your kids.

2) My OTHER cousin who I am very close to is due to give birth a week before my wedding but wants to know if she can bring her newborn. Again, we said fine since it's just a baby and we know she really wants to be at our wedding.

3) One of my parents close friends just lost his wife a month ago. We invited him with guest so he asked us if we would mind if he brought his 14-year old daughter as his guest. I said no problem since I felt bad that his wife just passed and what was I gonna say???

But after all this, I had a little mini-breakdown and was MAD that all these kids are now coming and I feel like I was forced into letting them come and it just really pissed me off.

Then I thought about it and I said to myself, wow, you're really being a mean, bridezilla. let it go and remember to just enjoy it all!

has anyone else gone through this or felt this way?? I'm sorry for such a long post, but I just needed to get this off my chest and see what you all thought about it. sometimes you just need feedback to feel better.

Thanks everyone!!

I completely understand because we do not want kids at our wedding either and I have a feeling that a few of my out of state relatives are going to end up asking if they can bring their kids. I am more worried about other guest being upset that some family members are bringing kids, so why can't they. I just don't want ot deal with that.

I can understand certain situations but I don't understand why parents will want their children there. They can't really enjoy themselves and PARTY

I, like you, said no kids at our wedding. Not because I do not like kids, or because I don't think they belong at a wedding, but because we had to find a cutting off point somewhere (especially since our RH only sits 170), so we decided no one under 21. Since then, however, we have had to say yes to a few kids for various reasons. I was pissed at first, but then I decided I was just being really petty. In all honesty, does it really matter if there are a few kids there if it means that the people you want to be there with you will be there? I think what really matters is that you are marrying the man of your dreams and sharing that special moment with the people who are important to you.

We said no kids and I am putting my foot down because it becomes a can of worms. How come her kid could come but mine couldn't? This was one place I wouldn't compromise with FMIL which is how I ended up at Pre-Cana today. I would rather give up my gazebo wedding then have kids. I picked my battle.

As for people who complain. My feeling is, if they can't care enough to work it out then don't come. My parents went to plenty of weddings and parties without me when I was a kid. All my friends parents did.

We hired babysitters at the hotel for our OOT guests. I am arranging for the babysitters to come to my shower so the mothers can meet them ahead of time. I am bending backwards to make things comfortable for people but I am NOT allowing kids. I also know people who gave up their bridal suites and hired babysitters at the rh and had the kids in the bridal suite the whole time.
