The inviations just went in the mail yesterday. No one has even received them yet. But it is already starting. My FI and I decided we wanted an adult only reception. FI's mother calls him today and says that his cousin want to bring their 3 kids. All under the age of 10. I don't even think the oldest is 10 yet. Because his cousin's husband doesn't like to leave them with anyone. I think it is unfair for people to ask you this. It puts you in a very awkward situation. Did anyone else have to deal with this and how did you deal? Thanks so much.

Re: Kids at Wedding (Vent)
One of FI's coworkers saw the 'adult reception' phrase on the RSVP card and actually had the balls to ask my FI if he can still bring his 2 year old even though he knows we wrote 'adult reception'!!!!
How can you do that? FI apparently couldn't say no (I definitely would have if I were asked) and so we already have one kid coming to the wedding
People are ridiculous! If you see the word 'ADULT' that means no kids! How dare you put my FI on the spot and ask in person!?!?!?!?

Yup it starts with the STD's my one coworker asked if she could bring her 14yr old daughter. I said yes, because she is 14 and I figure she'll watch the FG's and RB. But still to have ppl ask to bring someone, and I'm already over my max!!!

FH and I were really fortunate to have parents that knew our maximum number of guests and offered to help enforce the rule of no kids. Plus, we sent out an email with a link to our website which discussed having kids at the reception. It's going to be a long day ceremony at 4pm and reception ending around 11 30. Since everyone will be coming from OOT we offered to help find reputable babysitters.
We sent out our invites 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard a thing. Just my niece and nephews are allowed to go.

I know this is what is going to come up with me also. My FH has a football team of nieces and nephews ranging from 2yr-24rs....the older one dont have jobs and we just want an adult reception. The only children will be mine/his daughter=FG and my cousins son of whom is the RB.....I know for sure that there will be talk among the folks
if someone does that with me (which those that know me will think twice) I am going to stick to my gun and say NO!!

we just said that it is adults only and most people understood. It's hard to bring kids to our wedding b/c it's at night...

Same thing here. The invitations hadn't even gone out when we got our first phone call. My cousin wanted to know if his kids were invited (4 years old and 2 years old). Sorry, no kids at my wedding. It is getting to be too expensive as it is. We got his repsonse card back yesterday saying they didn't have anyone to watch the kids.
omg...can i just tell you how ghetto an ex-friend was (she wound up not being invited to the wedding over her pettiness and drama)
we sent out the STD's and she calls me and is like 'Lil Johnny wants to know if he's invited!' Yeah right biotch...cause your 3 yr old knows how to read and saw the STD and asked.
when i said no, she had the BALLS to pull her mouth away from the phone (but i was still able to hear -- slick biitch) 'I'm sorry papi...Uncle Pete and Titi Melissa said you CAN'T GO! They don't want you there, its adults only!'
ppl suuuck!

Honestly, if you tell them yes, everyone else will be mad at you. So IMO its better to stand your ground, have YOUR wedding the way YOU want, and maybe have 2 people upset at you, who if they really want to, CAN find a babysitter.
And thats coming from a mom of 2 very young boys who ALSO does not want to leave them with anyone. But sometimes you just have to.
Do not give in. If you do, youll find yourself doing it here and there and everywhere. I stood my ground and had a lovely child free wedding (except for wedding party) because thats what I wanted. Good Luck!
Theyll get over it. Trust me.

Re: Kids at Wedding (Vent)
some people are crazy..
My friend specifically said no kids,,,,,,,as she walked around greeting her guest she notice a woman (family friend) sitting in the back of the room with her 4 yr old on her lap...what a shame.....Mom should have stayed home....no fun and playing the 'hide out' game.
The bride was pissed but at that point what was she gonna do?

Stick to your guns-we havent had to deal with this problem yet. And hopefully we wont. But when we are asked we always respond that its no place for children (especially really little ones) and that is the story. If they try and fight it just tell them you will understand if they cant come and leave it at that

I also went through this whole thing...we were told by one couple 'well if there is no room for my son then were not coming' I said okay thanks thats fine just RSVP no and thats all (her son is 2 years old!!!).Why would you bring a 2 year old to a wedding? I ve been very firm about no kids and i definitly mean it and stood by it. Our youngest child there will be 12 years old and she is family so its understandable but absolutely NO babies!

Re: Kids at Wedding (Vent)
My mom got remarried 3 years ago, and said NO kids-soooooo many people asked to bring their kids-she said no and if they couldn't find a sitter-they didn't come. They still had 200 people at there wedding.

This is such a tough situation and one I am dreading dealing with. I have already had people ask if they can bring their kids. We really didn't want to have loads of kids at the wedding. However, we are having our flower girl and ring bearers. We have also made exceptions for people traveling from out of town (not that many). We are trying to be accommodating, but we are also trying to be fair.
thats pretty much what we're doing.

Re: Kids at Wedding (Vent)
Thanks guys for all backing me up. I spoke with FH and said that if we did it for them we had to do it for everyone and we both agreed. He said he will tell his mom our decision. I just wish with him it never came to the point to have to discuss it with me because he also made the decision in the beginning. IHe should of told his mother from the get go No. Not make it sound like it is me. I hate feeling like I am the bad one. But that is a whole other issue between us. Thanks for letting me vent. You all have been great.

Girl ... stick to your decision! I want no kids at my reception. I don't care what anyone says. I lost one of my BM because of the no kids rule.

Re: Kids at Wedding (Vent)
what is WITH people? i'm anticipating this causing major problems with my wedding too. FILs want to know why no kids are invited. I'd like to know why they feel they don't have to pay for the wedding, but they haven't answered that question for me yet, so I'll hold off on answering theirs too. good times....
