kids at weddings

kids at weddings

there has been a lot of talk about this subject and I just wanted to share with you guys what I experienced the last few days..

1. my wedding was in the afternoon...if it were at night...I may not have made the decision that I did.

2. I invited children to my wedding...but close ones...not everyones...nieces and nephew (of course) and my 1st cousins children (ages 7-14)
they had such a great time...it reminded me of the first wedding that I went to...

3. this weekend my uncle passed away and at the wake and funeral I was talking to my cousins wife...she kept telling me how much that her kids loved the wedding and what a great time they had and thanked me...
a. she said that her kids can't stop talking about it 6+ months later... AND
b. that her daughter danced with her grandfather (my uncle who passed away) and they felt so lucky that they were able to have that last time with him...

It just touched me so much and I felt so good that I did invite them...and I thought I would share...

I think that's lovely too. However, I did attend one wedding where the kids were a real problem. It wasn't so much the kids but the parent who didn't place any limits on them. The prize was one kid who actually stuck his hand in the side of the cake to grab a piece (while dinner was still going on) and the whole thing tilted and fell over. I think well behaved kids are great at a wedding just make sure they have parents that will keep them that way.

awesome story! i'm gonna have the kids at my wedding... i have to find out from one of my BM's though, if she wants me to invite her daughter..... her daughter calls me auntie & i love her, but i think she and her FH might want an evening party to themselves....

Nice story, we are having his niece and nephew (ages 3 and 6) at the wedding only. Actually, my aunts and uncles just didn't want to bring kids so that they could have more fun-it was more their choice.

Your story sums up why I don't regret my choice of inviting children

I plan on including children in my wedding (my FH has a beautiful little boy). Close family relatives' children will be invited as well. I really love children, and am a teacher, so I think it is meaningful for more ways than one to include children.

I can also understand why some may not invite children to their receptions.

I guess it really comes down to personal preference (and head count =) ).

That is a great story!! This is the reason that I insisted on getting a video & that I am having kids in my family there. You just NEVER know what the future holds! And the memories you get to keep FOREVER!!

Re: kids at weddings

That IS a beautiful story. A few weeks back, I got into a heated debate with someone about kids at weddings. I was for the idea, they were not. Their stand was that kids that are not well behaved have the potential to ruin the wedding. My take on it was that kids are the direct reflection of their parents. If the kids are horrors - -then their parents are probably worse therefore explaning why even they wouldn't be invited in the 1st place.

On the flip side of things, I was horrified that we would have a thousand kids at the wedding because we know tons of people with kids. . . .we don't want to go bankrupt . .but we also don't want to tell people that kids aren'tt allowed. But then we suddenly realized that we are having a late evening wedding which will probably force our guests to leave the kids at home!

That is such a nice story. Thanks for giving us a positive side to having kids at a wedding. You always hear such negativity.

That's really sweet!

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the other bride to be on here that it's not so much the kids - it's the parents, especially when they place no limits or boundaries with their children. That's why I'm not having kids at my wedding.
